Hubris (n.=excessive self pride or confidence)

Lost my Vulture yesterday - because I was just too self-confident. I'd been messing around in an Intense CZ where one of those Farragut battle cruisers was beating all comers, and was about to head home with about 1/2 million of combat bonds gained from finishing off damaged Anacondas and Pythons. Took on one damaged Anaconda too many which shot out my shields and reduced hull to 60%. So I boosted away, as one does, with the Annie in pursuit at maximum range, fired up the FSD, was just about to escape when my shields came back. Thought - I'll just finish him off - cancelled the jump - turned. Next thing, thrusters off line, canopy compromised....eject, eject. Lesson - always, always quit while you're ahead.

Repped for not being (too) bitter about it.

I always suffer the "just one more" problem but I have stuck with Vipers and Cobras until recently so buyback cash wasn't really a problem. I am flying much closer to the danger level of cash now so I could easily be posting the same thing before long ;)

I've only done the "One more kill" just once and learned my lesson. Good advice, but it might not sink in unless you've been through it. Luckily, I only lost about 1.5 mil in bounties plus my insured Viper. Had to go back in and get 2 mil just to catch up. I'd imagine a fully outfitted Anaconda would cost multiple times that.

<edit> +1 rep for handling it like an adult. </edit>

Happened to me too. Hi Res and a battle with a wing of Clippers. I decided to bug out after 2 were downed and the last heavily crippled Clipper chased me while my FSD charged.

I thought to myself - ' I'm on 60% hull, he's on 20%. What could possibly go wrong?' Seeing the insurance screen, that's what went wrong...
