HUD brackets here and gone

What's with the HUD brackets lately? Is there a new setting to make them fade away? I didn't see this behavior to the extent that I see it lately.
Forgive the post if this is on the issue tracker - I'm unable to log in to that interface :(

The HUD brackets will be missing labels and/or the second bracket. They'll fade away not to be seen at all. This behavior is particularly common if I'm in a fire group other than A. Examples:

I usually expect to see a single left-side and a double right-side bracket...

Text labels & right-most bracket missing...
HUG grp A missing text right.jpg

2 of 3 brackets missing...
HUD 2nd-right bracket only.jpg

Often (especially when not in group A) the HUD brackets disappear entirely....

Mostly this is annoying from a pilot's perspective because it robs me of information that is useful at a glance such as fire-group info (and a lot more of course).

Is this me, a setting, a bug, Thargoid meddling, engineering quirks...? :alien:

All right you engineers, time to fess up! Which one of you is responsible for this mess?

EDIT: A clarification. If I cycle fire groups or (apparently) drop out of supercruise/hyperspace, the HUD brackets display properly again for a bit before fading away. This sounds like a "feature" but the inconsistent way they change doesn't.

I get that as well. It is especially annoying in combat.

Nope - that is not the case in my experience.

The guillemet around a targeted object often just does not appear - then on targeting another object it appears again. I often experience this with cannisters and mats in space and on the surface. It has annoyed me for a very long time.

... argh - how did that get posted, I deleted the draft when I twigged that I had misunderstood the OP ... OMG - what else is in store????

Sorry

ya I know what you mean I found this is because I am using a head tracker as soon a I re center or turn off briefly It appears no problem
when selecting a target as you have too look directly center in order to target and head trakers can sit just off target instead of auto recentering

Get you with your “guillemets”. :p

I just call them angle brackets as opposed to curly brackets or square brackets. It is annoying when they go especially in combat.

I find, if you switch to weapons , while they are not deployed.... the brackets disappear.
its been like this for years

In the past I found that this behavior was sort of there when I was not in fire group A, but that the brackets persisted when in fire group A (especially in combat mode). Now, though the fade-away "feature" is more prevalent.
The fact that it's likely to be appealing to some players but not to others would lead me as a software writer to include a selection option for this "feature."
More importantly, the fact that it's inconsistent in the way that bracket(s) and/or label(s) are displayed/fade away is NOT good, imho. Maybe I'll poke FDEV about this to get it on the record- if I can get into the issue tracker.

Thanks for the replies CMDRs, as always.

Happy weird-HUD-brackets travels! ;)
