HUD Display information, What does the Bar graph to the right of throttle posiiton indicate

i Don't blame the developer.
Am I to blame, or the web for the lack of detailed information on a vital aspect of the game.

and discussion AMONG each other.
and here I thought you did it all by yourself, and that you didn't once whinge about it with your friends.

I've lost way to much money replacing ships , "boom",for no apparent reason, and the game has crashed way to often for me to be nice, the gloves are off.

. I cringe to think how dependent today's world has gotten on being spoon fed and not being able to figure things out
The short cut to trial and error is knowledge, which is derived from books/manual and or by talking to someone else who has experienced the same thing with a satisfactory outcome, which you have done, and now that you;re a expert you're looking down at the rookies and saying "suck it up troops, you're on your own", hypocrisy much ?.

I don't want my hand to be held during this game, I want to know EXACTLY the purpose of every tool in the toolbox so that I can do the job, do you get it !.

but they need to create a Simulator for the nerve center of this game, the Flight Deck/Cockpit. detailing the contents AND how the different systems are utilised and linked, Navigation, Communication, Systems, how they are tied together and how to use them efficiently and correctly. e.g. how to use the NAV panel for signal missions, etc.

Obsidian Ant where are you! This is crying out for one of his special vids. I've waded through his You Tube channel https://www.youtube.com/user/ObsidianAnt
and couldn't find one specifically unless I missed it somewhere but you can't go wrong watching any of his absorbing observations and advice.

His work is great, lots of time and dedication.

a training program for ED in order to make the game enjoyable from the get go.

1). Flight Deck/Cockpit video/simulator, (HUD iconography and instrument displays, systems, procedures and techniques)
2). Docking Simulator (to learn the basics of flight, set bindings, etc).
3). Combat Simulator.

They're 2/3rds of the way there, just one video/Simulator required, (THE most important one), to round off a great training program which would increase the enjoyment of this game tremendously for new comers.

Space Invaders didn't have a manual. Are you referring to that?

The original 1984 Elite did have a manual.
 
I finally found the official explanation.

Speed Indicator;
This graphic displays a number of details about your ship’s speed. The large segmented bar displays your current speed.

Directly to the right is your throttle bar. The pin on this bar represents your current throttle setting, and the size of the bar represents your throttle range, based on the number of “pips” allotted to the ENG capacitor, the size of your ship and the power of your engines.

To the right of the speed bar is a “sweet spot” indicator shown in blue. When your ship’s speed is within this range it will have the best manoeuvrability and smallest turning circle.

Although the manual is wrong when it says "to the right of the speed bar is a sweet spot", it should be LEFT, not right

That is the only plausible explanation I've come across, I'll play around with that theory and see if it fits.

What's really frustrating is that frontier knows the EXACT answer but they don't bother replying or informing its user base. especially with something so important, SO much information is displayed but no Official video or manuals, is this intentional ?. There is a limit to what google can do, it cannot fabricate information, not yet anyway....

Frontier please do a video which accurately describes all the instrumentation and HUD iconography, essentially a Cockpit User Manual, PRETTY PLEASE

I would like to see some kind of "salesman" pitch video's for each of the space craft available at the station and instructions on how best to maintain it/instrumentation - aside from being quite entertaining, it would be very informative on max cargo size, speed etc..
 
I'm reading the manual cover to cover, my frustration with the game would've been much less had I been patient and RTFM first, but no, I know aeroplanes so I'll just jump in and turn the key......I should've known better. I'm now extremely happy at knowing what every dial, switch, and gauge does on this flight deck, *sigh*.

Now I need to find the mute button for "you're spending too much time on that game" voice :)

what happened to the days when games were objectively worse???

oh right, developers got better at documenting their games, and customers' expectations raised.
 
OP, Elite is DEEP, which is why it's pretty much the only game I've played this year. I have learned to keep my cell phone next to me as I play, so I can look stuff up as I go without having to log out. You can learn by trial and error, as many fine CMDRs have before you, or you can use the numerous references available online. Personally, I prefer to use the resources I have available.

INARA.cz is a great place to start. Get an account, sync it with your Frontier account, and use it as a reference, especially for market pricing information.

Take advantage of player made tools like EDMC, the Elite Dangerous Market Connector, which supports modules which draw extra information to your ship's HUD, or EDDI, which expands your ship's COVAS functionality greatly.

If you want a game that is easy to learn, ED might not be for you; it has a steep learning curve, and once you've learned the basics, it takes even more effort to master them. But I think it's worth the trouble. :)

P.S. Don't fly without the rebuy! (Look it up if you don't get it.)
