HUD icon not seen before

Hi,

After update 9 those icons start showing on HUD, even when it goes "outside" canopy.
No idea what these are, mean and point at.

hmm .. I haven't seen any of those. Do you guys play in squadron or with friends? If I'd have to take a guess, I'd say it's related to other players (wing, squadron, friends ..etc), but if it doesn't point to anything at all, then maybe a bug?

The one we saw last night was at a Thargoid structure it was yellow and shaped like a nut (from a nut and bolt) there were 3 white arrow heads pointing away from it and they moved around it as you pointed your ship away. Weird. There were 3 of us in the Wing/Team but the arrows did not seem to be related to me or my teammates as least as far as we could figure.

From update 9 patch notes:

UI

  • Conflict Zone capture point icons are now be visible when in SRVs and Ships.

    Maybe it's a left-over from an on-foot (team-) battle?

To be honest I get weird markers sometimes in the FSS.. no idea what they are, they look similar to yours crossed with a crosshair from some unknown weapon type. Who knows anymore.

Are there any (ship) missions active at that time? I've only been doing on-foot missions for ages (admittedly, mostly in an Apex) and haven't seen these icons once since Update 9.

So I have them too. What I have noticed, while bounty hunting, is that the symbols are appearing on top of salvage. Such as the engineering materials and goods. It is odd though, they don't seem to always appear on each of the items. No clue yet what causes them on some and not others. The symbol changes based on if it is a material or a trade good.

I have discoverd that these appear to be ships\targets that are targetable\visible in your contacts panel but at longer range than weapons etc.
If you target from context panel - they lock on with a different icon, with the arrow indicating some kinda "direction" to your target. Its wierd, intermittant so maybe wrong.. but repeated with a wingmate a few times, other NPCs like cruisehips and such also show up if targetted and not in your immediate view.

Like a "3D" icon pointing to the contacts panel "contacts". I will attach some images below to try and demonstrate what i mean, here you see the icon and just happens to be close and directly in front view, so you can also see the larger diamond icon indicating a lockaable ship. I can then lock - and see its a NPC ship.

If this 'new' icon was something the side or behind my ship, it would have the arrow indicator - and depending on whether its something you can target, or distance the icons do change in colour and style (full circle if locked). These are the "variants" also called out by Sighman and in his post # 11 in this thread (6 above)

Here how it appears without clicking on it, from my Contacts panel it indicated a a list of contacts including a Type 7 ship.

The "selecting" it in contacts, it locked it in my front view .. and icon changed - and indicated same Type 7.

So, hum, this is still in the game. I've been trying for months to figure out what this is. it only happens in wings and these symbols are "in 3d space" meaning you can go near them in space.
They also do not follow the rule of being drawn in the ship's windshield. they are just drawn even on the back of the ship if you look back.
Did anyone find something about this?
