I've been seeing these on NPC Anaconda and Corvettes since at least 2.0 or so, possibly earlier, but there still seems to be some contention as to whether they actually exist.

So, when my CMDR came across one this morning, I recorded what I think is fairly indisputable proof that this is is actually a functioning huge turret:

In before (easy as I'm the OP, ha) inevitable claim that, "just because you're the instance host and there is no latency and that cannon is on a turreted mount and is shooting directly behind the ship it's mounted on doesn't mean it's actually a huge turret". Yes, it's actually a huge turret.

Large? I don;t think NPCs are prevented somehow from using undersized weapons.

It's the huge turret model, which is very distinct from the large.

Fair. Well then looks like NPCs have access to a weapon that players don't.

Hardly a radical concept to be honest.

It's apparently the only example of NPCs having any weapon mount that CMDRs don't.

However, there are a few examples of NPC only secondaries...namely phasing sequence beam lasers and the ATR-only reverberating cascade burst lasers.

check the target tab to see if it a weapon

It's listed as "cannon", as expected.

I meant in gaming as a whole. You'd be hard-pressed to find a game where players have access to absolutely everything that NPCs have. It's usually for balance.

Even bloody Skyrim has a sizeable number of such weapons. For example the "swords" that Ashspawn on Solstheim wield.

Sure.

However, Elite: Dangerous has generally not followed that precedent. Most claims of NPC 'cheating' have been demonstrably false and there are more example of where CMDRs have abilities NPCs do not than the other way around.

Looks like a large turret to me.

Even without the 4k video being done processing yet, the 1080p video clearly shows a huge turret.

Just to clarify: When I say it looks like a large turret, I'm thinking that looks small. (I know you know)
I would compare myself but my I'm not near my Corvette atm.

Its a huge cannon for sure.

I remember the devs saying they tested huge turrets but they looked wrong- maybe this one slipped through?

I know from weapons firing through ships and other clipping issues maybe it was too obvious on player ships.

Thinking back it fits with what I've experienced as well, I just wonder why its only cannons though. I can't remember seeing any lasers act like that.

Possibly because there originally weren't any huge weapons other than PA and cannon and PA were always only fixed.

It's fairly common to see these huge cannon turrets in CZs.

Its where I think I've seen them- or, had impossible shots land on me.

Just a note. You can put L/M/S weapons on a H mount.

sigh

Why do so many people insist that Elite is so radically different to other games when it really isn't?
