Hull protection

I was curious what people's thoughts were on bulkheads and hull reinforcement packages. The military grade composite bulkhead seems to be the best option as provides protection against all weapons.

They're useful if you're rigging a ship up for combat, obviously. HRPs are basicly extentions to your ship's 'health bar', while the bulkhead packages take a percentage off the damage you take. Both can serve well to drastically increase your survivability if your shields go down.

good on some ships, bad on others.

it just really depends on ship. python? shield tank. fdl? up to you, both are viable. fas? hull tank. big ship? shield tank. always buy bulkheads though, even on shield tanked ships, and put hrps in the smaller slots that aren't scbs, but again, depending on ship, there are better options available than stacking hrps.

I've found that they are quite useful on the Anaconda. The Anaconda's power plant is smack-dab in the middle of the ship, making it an easy target. The military grade composite is ideal. It is still easier to trash an Anaconda's powerplant than it is to destroy all hull. So, it helps, but not enough to justify a $154 million price tag.

I have a Cobra MKIII. I'm mainly combat but wasn't sure if the HRP's were a waste of a slot and something which slowed down a ship too much.

for the most part, the reduced speed from hrps is relatively negligible. cobras hit what? 420ish (hurr hurr)? with hrps that may drop to 415ish, maybe 410. either way, it'll still outspeed everything but clippers and lightweight cobras.

edit: 420 with full hrps and military armor. 427 with a shield, scbs, a few hrps, and military. the 7 extra m/s really won't mean much since you outspeed just about everything that isn't a cobra, clipper or imp eagle.

basically, just cram as much crap into your ship as you can. scbs, hrps, bulkheads, etc. the tankier it is, the less likely you are to die.

They add weight just like anything else.

I'd only suggest it to someone if they were having issues with modules being destroyed. If not, then you probably won't benefit from it much.
