Newcomer / Intro Hull Reinforcement - has it been nerfed...?

A while ago on another thread on the forum I read a post where the poster highly recommended the use of multiple Hull Reinforcement Packages

Recently, I read another post saying that this feature had been nerfed - is this true....?

I don't think nerfed, but now with high-piercing weapons the overall "hitpoints" are less important than the hull hardness. So it's advisable to go for bulkheads upgrade first. Once You have a military grade armour, you can still greatly benefit from HRPs.

Military grade armor doens't increase hull hardness, that is fixed per ship. All it does is add additional hit points without using an internal slot.

@OP; The 'nerf' to the HRPs is that missiles now take out external modules like weapons, utilities, and thrusters extremely efficiently, with HRPs providing no protection to them, as they just increase the overall hitpoint pool for the ship's hull.

It (and its variants) increases resistances, unlike HRPs

Thanks guys

I take it that it works both ways - ie if I install a missile launcher on my ship, I've got a chance of a lucky hit on an NPC Thrusters, etc ....?

Explosive weapons like missiles, torpedoes and mines have an area effect. I am told that this can bite you if some of the shrapnell hits a security ship doing their anti chaff technique of closing to within mm of the target, you can end up wanted.
