hull reinforcement package and bulkheads.

I am curious.

I have looked for threads, but they seem contradictory on the matter.

I was wondering if anyone has done any tests on these upgrades.

As I understand it (Correct me if I am wrong).

Bulkheads make your hull last longer against enemy fire by 25 - 75 % dependant on type.

An example (No shields)
If ship A has light alloy and ship B has reinforced alloy, then ship B would need to be shot 25% more than ship A to take the hull down from 100 to 0.

In this case say the enemy ship fired 10 shots to complete ship A and 12.5 shots to complete ship B

Yet...

Hull Packs only seem to protect subsystems, but does anyone know by how much.?

Has anyone you-tubed a test?

In fact are they even worth the extra weight?

You've got it backwards: hull packs protect the hull only, and not subsystems. For example, an engine takes say four hits to destroy if it is sub-targetted. With hull packs, that same engine takes the same four hits to destroy. However, if you don't bother sub-targetting, you have to carve up the hull to get to the engine, which can happen if you are chasing a fleeing ship. So, with hull packs, it takes you more hits to eliminate the hull, and then the hypothetical four hits pop pop pop pop to take out the engine.

Bulkheads will cause the ship to absorb more damage per strike, making each hit count for less. The basic improvements are certainly better than nothing, but the specialized improvements do help. Trouble is, which one to pick: mirrored or ablative? Mirrored protects very well against beam strikes, which is what most other players will use to take down shields. That, and players who hate reloading will go full-beam on their ships. Ablative is weak to beams, but since your shields are down players with mixed loadouts will switch to projectiles, which rip through mirrored armour.

NPC's, well, you roll the dice to see what you get in terms of their loadout (for a while I was running into NPC murder squads all armed with fragment cannons, that was weird. Not too hard to simple stay out of their range and pick them off with standoff tactics), but by the time you can afford either mirrored or ablative armour, you should know how to handle NPC ships.

Personally, I don't have a use for hull packs, I prefer shield packs and boosters. But if you aren't worrying about hull space, weight, or jump length, then I guess use hull packs if it makes you happier. If heavier shields wreck your power levels, that may also be a consideration.

Generally speaking if fighting NPC's and they are popping your shield before you kill them then you are doing something wrong... Or you are being out-gunned in which case braking off the engagement and requiring the target is the best option. Though if you feel compelled to have top tier everything then mirrored is the way to go since NPC's will use more thermal and explosive weapons the the higher their rank is.

Against players... Stick to reinforced since players are real wildcards when it comes to load outs.
