Hull tank or shield tank for the imminent thargoid invasion?

Obviously we don"t have enough data at the moment...but we can speculate using the tiny amount of knowledge we do have solely for the purpose of an interesting discussion. I doubt FD are going to change the game mechanics drastically and everybody is destroyed on first contact. So our only defences are shield and hull...EMP and corrosive effects are their likely weapons against those(well everything associated with them is corrosive anyway). EMP followed by corrosive attack may be the end to the shield tanks so I'm leaning towards hull tanking. Weapon choice? something to warm them up since they prefer it a bit on the chilly side but that is another discussion. So in preparation for their imminent return what are your thoughts?

I'd say shields, because nasty things can happen when your hull is exposed. Cutter with SCBs for boom-and-zoom? For hull tanking you'd probably want an Anaconda, but once she gets into trouble it will be tough to get away.

Speed does seem to be an option and a good one. My only encounter so far was quite slow for EMP to fully kick in.....but....no thrusters and no shield=sitting duck. The EMP didn't last that long so could a decent hull stand up to give you a chance for return fire?

I'd guess that we'll be looking at shielded power units and shields ( possibly from Palin), and some enhanced weaponry - possibly biological in action. The shielding wont be any more effective against the laser/canon/missiles etc than present systems but may well have more mass and power requirements.
Weaponry would be rather like mining lasers - effective against the specific type, but quite weak against conventional shields

I also suspect that there may be additional grade protection modules for the specific slots.

At present, I'd guess the most useful weapon is a torpedo which you launch before you lose all power.

I have a gut feeling we might be dealing with Alien style corrosive hull eating weapons.
Just based in what I've seen at the alien base.

I'm keeping my shields. :p

I think that these will happen but take time and grind. We still have to survive the first wave of encounters and I mean survive! Probably not going to be kicking Thargoid butt on those. Torpedoes are a good idea though.

Hybrid tank. Frontier would seemingly like to make shields down combat more commonplace, so I wouldn't rule out the possibility of pure shield tanking being impractical against thargoids. But at the same time, you can't really go past the huge effective hitpoint increase you get from shield regeneration.

Of course, we don't know what else will change with 2.4. Even just having hull repair limpets could change everything.
