[Humour] Dev. notes #2: Planetary mass-lock...

Dev 1: "Guys, guys, we have to make some money to keep the legend of the universe of Elite alive."
Dev 2: "OK, sooo, if we make it seasonal, you know like football games, we can charge the same again each year for CMDRs to beta test the game that year, so we can sell it cheaper to people who buy it a year later."
Dev 1: "Plan. So, let's make it... airless planetary landings for season 2, including potato planets!!".
Dev 2: "Smart, but how do we exclude some CMDRs from landing on planets?"
Dev 1: "That's easy, we'll just have planets mass-lock them twice, once at 20Km and again at 2.5Km."
Dev 2: "But surely that's against all known laws of physics?!"
Dev 1: "We can't possibly allow something as universal as physics to get in the way of this space sim."
Dev 2: "Cool, cool, let's code it!"

why do you feel the need to start another pointless and boring thread that is totally humourless?

The term [Humour] was added to the thread by a kindly Mod. We have barely begun CMDR, besides what's humourous is a subjective matter. This forum does seem to lack some at times :)

OK Ill answer your original post

ED has never claimed to be scientifically accurate - its a game always was
.
There are very few mechancis that are scientifically accurate
.
Laser will not emit light as there are no electrons to excite to a level to release energy
Frame shift drives have zero science theories behind them
Super cruise has zero science theories behind them
The flight model in use has no basis in fact
.
Its all about making a GAME
.
so your basic point in the OP is a waste of time as its main direction that its not scientifically accurate was never a plan any way the plan was to make a game
.

Oh how I am splitting my sides at the dev #1 saying lets have laser that emit light that will get them all

Yeah this mechanic is lame. Would have been far better if you got a message warning you do not have an orbital permit followed by a capital ship appearing out of hyperapace behind you and instantly vapourising your ship!
