Hungry for even the slightest hints on 2.1? Look at this concept art.

On Kotaku today, I found this image of the devs, toiling away for our pleasure!
Check out the sweet, sweet concept art on the wall!

Putting image in spoiler-mode, as it's huge.
Right click, i think for full res. Else, click here.

Edit: right behind the fan..That's hair!

Weapon affixes

So I have been trying out some of the new weapon variants, and while some appear to do just what it says on the tin, others are not so clear:

  • Low Heat Laser: Produces less heat and draws less power. I have a hunch it also does less damage, but I am not sure; also wondering if it does, whether the damage/heat ratio is better or worse than the default variant.
  • Overcharged Laser: Produces more heat and draws more power, and does more damage. Again, wondering about damage/heat ratio.
  • Focused Laser: Needs more power and produces more heat than normal, less than Overcharged. No idea what benefit it gives over normal.
  • High Impact Multi-Cannon: Slower rate of fire, very small magazine, same total ammo pool. Seems to do more damage per shot, therefore more ammo efficient, and a bit like a middle ground between a normal Multi-Cannon and a Cannon.
  • Overcharged Multi-Cannon: Higher rate of fire and smaller magazine. No idea whether the damage per bullet is different from a normal Multi-Cannon.
  • Bullet Spray Multi-Cannon: Exactly what it says; very low accuracy, sprays bullets randomly in a cone, probably only useful at close range. A gimballed version of this exists, but is completely useless compared to fixed.

Sounds mostly right, some of this stuff will continue to get clarified in the UI as we develop. Two things worth pointing out off the top of my head though:

Overcharged - yep, that does more damage.
Focused - Lower base damage but penetrates the damage resistance of armour better. In general the focussed weapons will perform worse against lighter-than-normal targets, but better against larger targets or those with expensive armour.

(I believe Focused and High Impact are in fact the same, just used for beam/projectile weapons, as focussing a bullet makes not much sense ;)).
mind you this info is from 03/10/2014

I'm going to adopt a wait and see attitude. I only have the base game but from what I've heard, Horizons doesn't offer enough to spring for the $40 upgrade as of now. I'm really hoping for a game changer, but we'll see.

They will come, they just wanna do it right because that's what ppl want these days apparently, as opposed to releasing and fixing as we go.
Hence delays.

Oh, absolutely- I'm not one of those frustrated by the delay. I know they're working hard, and I'm sure 2.1 will be pretty damn cool:)
I don't want to distract them, though!

Those are...creature silhouettes!
I've enhanced it with photoshop, and i see 4 legs. Can't see any arms, though.
They're insect-like.
No immediate resemblance to barnies or UAs, design-wise.
I see large heads with some sort of crest(?)
Most of them have an S or C-shape, indicating a potential for snake-like movement?

Source- I'm a part-time creature designer.

Cool, post one of your creations?

To be honest;

There is supposed to be a LOT in 2.1

I'd rather they did more releases than save it all up for one "big blast". If the new crime-and-punishment is ready now, why does it wait on Engineers?

Personally, I have no problem with the "build up and blast"-approach. I just think it's a little frustrating that there's so little news about it.
But that's just me- I'm impatient. They probably have a good reason.

P.S.
Whenever I reply with a quote, I usually press enter to go down a line, and write away. After a few words, though, the next letters appear on the line above (the one between the quote and my reply). Am I the only one seeing this?

Right now, though, my Horizons upgrade feels like a bit of a swizz.

Great... Some minor ship variants and a planet landing mechanism... It's good, but forty quid?

As of now, Horizons is a bit lacklustre. But remember, the 40 quid gets you the whole season! And that's great.
