Newcomer / Intro Hunt and Destroy mission, where is the damn ship

Ok so I accepted a hunt and destroy mission to track down this guy, given 3 possible locations as to where he usually is, but I've flown to stations, hung around them, flown about in supercruis, stayed at the Nav point, but he just doesn't show up on the scanner!

Anyone else suffer this frustration? For these types of missions where are you most likely to find them, hanging around a station or in supercruise?

Been there and gave up, the missions need A LOT of work to make them playable.

Look for an Unidentified Signal source. That's where mission NPCs usually show up.

Search for USS (Unidentified Signal Source) in supercruise.
If you jump in them you will find a person who will update your quest where he is.
Then repeat the process.

Not quite sure what you mean, I'm at a Stars nav point, locked onto a USS, even scanned it, it flew right by me, and thats it, where's the info or how do I 'jump in' to a USS?

A USS is just like a space station. Get to within 1000km and drop out of supercruise to enter the USS.
You may have to do several before you find the right guy.

Ah ok gotcha, had no idea about that! Ok so I found a ship which updated my mission, now instead of listing 3 possible systems it only lists 1 that he's in, but that still leaves me with the question of where i'm gonna find him, in supercruise or hanging around a station or asteroid belt, which is more likely for these types of missions?

Believe it or not, he's in another USS. Just look for one now in the system they told you about.

Yup, that's why I avoid those missions with a newbie ship til I can outfit better. The hardest ship I've taken out with a stock newbie sidewinder is a cobra flown by a competent pilot.

Done one of these missions yesterday, found him quite easily in his anaconda only for him to fly straight into my Cobra and destroy it without him firing a shot lol

...errr yeah, just got my ass majorly kicked, lol. Even though I was in a Viper, his beam lasers cut through me like butter, had to supercruise out of there.
