Hunted Target Destroyed But The Mission Is Not Accomplished

So I hunt a target in a target system and when he nearly destroyed, he jumped. I scan the Wake, and follow him to another system and fight him once again in another system. Once his hull is nearly 0% I accidentally bump to his ship and his ship was destroyed. But the completion mission message is not showing, and the mission is still there in my transaction page.

What did I do wrong? Is it because I killed him in another system or because I bump to him or what?

I try to patrol that system once again and the target is never showing up again.
