Hunting a black hole

Happy hunting OP and report back when you've found it with a spoiler tag, I'd check it out for sure just because I'm curious how that system is set up.

Some Black holes are actually thee most brightest things in the universe after the big bang itself.

Don't rain on my Red Dwarf Parade! :D

They are called Quasars, the black hole itself is still black.. the brightness comes from an accretion disc of very hot matter orbiting around the black hole...

Not to be confused with Quagaars (double A actually);)

Is the centre nav point of a star system supposed to drastically slow you down as you get close to it? Because that's the only thing of note I've found so far
Well, if there was no massive body evident then the black hole might have been near. Did you hit your discovery scanner again when you slowed down?

See post #18, I think it was because I had targeted the system I was in, flew towards its centre which slowed me down to a crawl as I passed the nav point.

Good luck Paddyk. I wish I had your patience, the only bh I've visited was with the aid of an ADS. I might give it a go the difficult way sometime though.

I found the Maia B blackhole (the heart of the Pleiades Nebula) with the basic scanner.

Interesting fact: the gravitational lensing is visible at extreme range... it's just very hard to spot. When I was still a looong way out, I noticed a single tiny star... split into two stars, then become one again.

Also, watch for NPCs - they will always fly towards points of interest, even if its suicidal.

Hmmm...if you are exploring the system, and you can only discover objects around you 500ls...how come you have a visual of what the system looks like? If your scanner hasn't picked it up, you shoudln't be seeing anything.

Only ask because, if it shows in the galaxy map, as unexplored...then for sure it shows in the nav panel, as unexplored....

Did I state the obvious? Did I miss anything here?? LOL.

One of the many inconsistencies in this game.

If the Galaxy Map knows its a star, and knows its type, and the target hologram is of a star... why does the contact list still show a generic icon until it's explored? We already know its a star. Give it the star icon >.<

Finally found it! Thanks all for your help. I was fairly nearby then noticed an NPC drop a low intensity wake a few thousand LS away, figured he must have flown too close, investigated, fired my discovery scanner and there it was.

A screen cap for those curious. Looks different than I would have assumed... Any closer and I would have fried I think

Great fun, made the 200 LY trip worth it

Will a BH always be exposed by a discovery scan if you are close enough?
I have a system I scanned the life out of but I can't return any unexplored objects, when moving between the star and a dwarf star my speed drops off then speeds up again to normal. There is also a gap in the planets in the system view which is almost planet sized.
Or do you have to find it by seeing and then scan it, just how close would you need to get?

Thank you.
