Hyperdrive ? no more Hyperjump ?

I post this because i confess: i begin to be a little confused now.

someone said to me that this is the concept test for the hyperdrive effect in game:

so it's really the seamless travel star to star ?

no more Hyperjump : ''bang'' entering hyperspace >>> ''bang'' exit hyperspace jump ?

:S

someone please clarify this doubt

thanks in advance

There's still Hyperspace and jumping. That gets you to a particular system. It's certainly *BANG* - the sound effect for jumping is awesome - especially with lots of bass!

While you're in the system, you might want to visit different planets, which are quite far apart - for that, you use the Frame Shift Drive (think Torus) to get to those planets at a much higher speed than normal flight.

Hyperspace is in the current Alpha 3.4 version (although with a placeholder jump animation), FSD will be in the next Alpha and Premium Beta.

That's the plan. They're aiming for seamless jumps without the loading screen. The location will load as you watch the fancy hyperspace animation.

As you indicate, the current spinning ship is a place holder. I suspect that you will still have the pre-amble to hyperspace, with varying engagement times depending on factors, and will have something like the jump in the video - with the proper and cool sound effects to match.

:)

It sounds good?
It looks amazing?
It is one of ten possible animations?

Then for me it doesn't matter if i jump or walk :D

I will be so glad when the spinning ship goes.

The little boy once marvelling at those polygons sure will hate me now, but the prospect of so much eye candy makes my brain somewhat sluggish, and unable to comprehend any issues in the wake of this splendor. Will have to resort to the dubious wisdom of afterthought, as so often before... :p

It was already stated by devs that journey between star systems won't be seamless.

Not quite. As far as I have understood you will indeed get an effect like the one shown above (or something similar) when jumping from one system to another, however you won't be in control of your ship when doing this. For all intents and purposes this will just be a really really fancy loading screen even if it will feel seamless. Trying to "slowboat" between systems with supercruise however will not be possible.

Don't care.. as long as it feels seemless :D

So we can't stop our ships mid-jump then? Kinda odd but i think SC is doing something like that as well with their jump points.

Why do you want stop mid-jump where 2 ly to one system and 2 to another.

Also let's stop spread confusing rumors. It *is* seamless (as it indicates what player see, not what actually happens within system). No, you can't exit it voluntary. It's a huperjump, duh. You can misjump though, especially when you are exploring.

Also in ED you can jump from any point in system (well, almost anyone - except near big physical bodies).

No, and I'm not sure why you would want to (although in EVE I used to do that to 'stash' locked containers away in a hidden wayponts between POI's) - there's not a lot going on between systems (witch space)

As I understand it there may be the odd miss-jump / drive failure that may cause you to drop out mid jump - but I suspect that may just dump you in a random system or on the rim of one.

oh... and as long as the jumps 'feel' seamless, that's all I need (I don't need to look behind the curtain thanks :p)

Why would you want to stop mid flight? for the view only? you would have to warp somewhere else anyway :)

I really wouldn't give much importance but i kinda liked the idea of being able to stop in-between Galaxies to admire the view like you said. It just adds to the immersion. I have already pledged to the Premium Beta and this is not gonna be a deal breaker or something but just something i would have liked.

"in-between Galaxies"?

This is going to be hard even if it was possible to stop mid-flight considering we are "only" going to be travelling around the 100 Billion star systems of the Milky Way, not the entire Universe. ;)

You mean stop in interstellar space? There's only one galaxy :p

I agree though, it would have been nice to be able to drop out of hyperspace between two points, and be alone out in the void, light years away from any system, but after a while I think it'd be pretty boring

I heard expansion #3 was going to be the entire cosmos procedurally generated. 100 billion galaxies, a google-plex star systems to explore. But its been scrapped since Michael can't find a harddrive big enough for his database. ;)
