Hyperdrive

Right... So I hope I am doing something wrong... But when traveling through space... It is just wasted time there really isn't anything to do... And I can not stand the proximity thing that just drops me out all the time and I don't understand how to fix it so just quit the game at the moment...

For me it is killing the game play... Is there a better way to travel that I don't know about...

Check you do not have AMD_crashfix enabled. This disables planets and stars.

What should see over the course of development:

  • Far reduced volumes of 'mass locked' space. This space currently triggers the proximity warning.

  • Networked instancing, rather than the clientside 'hack' that we have at the moment.

  • Ability to monitor other ships in SC, with the option of avoiding or interdicting them.

  • Exaggerated 'slingshot' effects, such that advanced navigation tactics can be employed.

This.
If you're right next to a planet you can't see you will still be affected by it and so cannot hyperspace or enter supercruise.
So you can go nowhere.
Switch of the AMD fix and you'll be able to see the planets, stars and other stuff.

The fix was introduced some time ago when we were in Alpha 2 I think. It was because some AMD cards were causing the game to crash when the planets were rendered. I have no idea why personally. But the devs came up with a quick and dirty fix that stopped the crash by getting rid of the planet and star rendering.
It's not needed now as it's been fixed in the main code but the button is still confusingly there. So anyone with an AMD card might be tempted to press it thinking they will be solving a problem.
It's a low priority task to remove the button but it might well disappear next week when Pbeta 2 comes out on Tuesday.

Damned Crash Fix

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I had no idea what I was doing, as well, until I finally found that damned AMD_CRASH_FIX in the Graphics option.

Now I can actually see planets! Hehe.

Also, after a hyperdrive jump you always face an interstellar fusion reactor of somewhat large mass, and that always triggers the proximity warning. About the Supercruise afterwards, well, there's This Discussion.

But the problem with you not seeing the obstacles should be passé with the Graphics option. Give it a try!

Oh, also, the game takes an insane amount of patience at this point in time if you're not used to playing flight simulators or related stuff. But one or two successful things, and you might find the joy in it. It can still frustrate. Yesterday I somehow drifted into a space station, no idea how, it was basically surrounding me. Luckily I was badly damaged and the copper nuked me quickly enough, so I called it a night.
