Hyperspace auto throttle malfunction?

Question if you can help me.

Lately, I've noticed that when I come out of a hyperspace jump, instead of coming to a halt in front of the star, my throttle automatically spools up and I start heading towards the star. A few times I almost collided with the star thinking my ship was stopped, but at the last moment realized what was happening and pulled away. It has never done this before and I cannot seem to find out what is wrong. Has this happened to anyone else?

There's a selectable option for whether it does that or not in the ship settings. Might be worth checking it.

"Ship" tab on the right panel ("4"). 2nd or 3rd page down the left side menu.

Alternatively, if you, like me, use the keyboard as throttle when in SC, and also have a throttle on stick, the stick throttle position can be used in the same manner. IE: set the stick throttle to 0 and when you exit at a star, you stop; set the stick throttle to max and when exiting at a star you automagically begin to accelerate.

The setting is called "Hyperspace Dethrottle." It will set your throttle to zero when you drop from a hyperspace jump into supercruise if you are using supercruise assist.
If you prefer not to use SCA, doing as @nemolomen suggests is an effective way to know what your ship will do upon drop-out.

This can be done by programming a key for zero throttle and touching that key right before the ship makes its jump. A 'zero-throttle' key is really handy otherwise as well.
I use it for docking and for when I'm about to drop out of supercruise and don't want to overshoot my target in normal space. Very useful.

Happy travels!

Possible oddity - if you do not have Supercruise assist installed, hyperspace dethrottle doesn't show in the panel.
Using Horizons, Odyssey not installed

Another factor is whether you are in supercruise or normal space when you make the jump. Jumping from normal space, your throttle will be zero on the other side. Jumping from supercruise, your throttle position is maintained. That's where that zero-throttle key comes in handy.

This is likely one of the causes of some CMDRs' confusion about finding this setting and why I emphasized the use of SCA in my response. My emphasis may have been too subtle.

In my experience it's not 100% reliable, maybe 99% at best. Every once in a while it fails to engage.
As often recommended with regard to the autodock/autolaunch features, it's wise to keep alert about what's happening. That advice applies here too. :)

But really the whole game is like that. IE: "wise to keep alert about what's happening"

I mean: realtime, no in-game pause, NPCs, gankers, on foot combat, etc...the list goes on and on and on like an energizer bunny.

If you are using a throttle and it's got a bit noisy (the position is reported as changing a little all the time) then that will cause it to disengage the auto throttle.
