Hyperspace question - fuel

Hey, me again.

Can I get advice please? I jumped from Aulin to Rakapila. Fine. I then got some cargo and decided to head back to Aulin, as I can only seem to do short trips.

However, it says that the jump is too far for my fuel, but there is nowhere that is nearer. Is that normal lol? I have no idea where to go now.

Thanks in advance.

The distance you can jump is also determined by the mass of your ship, so if you have cargo you can jump further. If you look on the system map you can see how far you can jump with different amounts of cargo by using the slider on the Navigation tab.

This does not make sense to me though, sorry. I flew from Aulin to Rakapila fine with no cargo yet it's too far now I have cargo. Sorry, I am confuddled.

Surely you can't jump as far if you have cargo on board, that is the reason.

corrected for everyone's sanity :)

This is actually starting to annoy me lol. I may have to accept that this game is just too overwhelming for me. Everytime I think I have the hang of it and I go to do something, it doesn't let me do it!

I can't now actually travel anywhere other than back to the docking station.

The more mass your ship has the more energy the drive needs to hyperspace. As the hyperspace drive has a set limit, the more mass you add to your ship (i.e. weapons/modules cargo) the less range it can jump.

You could try either taking less cargo or losing a module (gun etc.) this will extend your range. It looks like you were near max range when you jumped to the system and now with cargo your ship has a reduced jump range, meaning that you can't leave.

ETA: You did buy some fuel to top off your tanks didn't you.. as that would affect things as well :)

I did buy fuel yes. Now when I try to jump I get the "Frameshift cancelled. Hardpoints/Gear/Scoop deployed" message.

What does that mean? I have nothing deployed. I have checked.

Hmm that does generally mean you have something deployed.

Have a look on the panel to the right in the systems screen (I think) to double check (also there are blue lights in the lower right to indicate things like this) . Unless it is a bug and it thinks you have stuff deployed when you don't. In that case try save & quitting to the menu and restarting. It should put you back where you are and hopefully fix the issue.

You cannot framshift while cargo scoop, landing gear and/or hardpoints are deployed.
Check on the bottom right if scoop or gear is deployed and look outside your window to check if hardpoints are deployed.

Yeah it was a bug I think. I quit and went back in and it was fine. Thanks for help guys, I am going to log now. I need a break. It's winding me up. It could all be fixed by having a system on the map that lets you know how far you can travel with your fuel.

Glad we could help. I would raise a ticket and explain the issues your having, that is the point of the beta, FD might find a way of enhancing the map to show your range a bit more.

Personally I'd like to know the stats of the ships (max range etc.) as I a) buy them and b) add cargo/modules to them.

There already is, on the bottom of the view settings tab (it seems to be a bit gltichy though so take it with a pinch of salt)

The distance the slider tells you you can jump is based on surrent weight of ship, remove weapons, you can carry more, or jump further

AND, in a sort of ironic way, you can jump further with LESS fuel.... as a typical jump uses 0.6 tonnes of fuel, so if you have a third of a tank, you are over 1 tonne lighter...

:D
