Ships I absolutely love the diamondback

I liked this little ship at first too. Hated the big brother though. Then I jumped back into a cobra for a quick comparison. Wow. The Cobra is a fantastic little ship. Fully armed with a full scanner suite and decent shields, the ship can jump 22.7LY. It handles beautifully if you know how to fly it, possibly even better at combat maneuvers than the DB Scout. It can out boost anything it can out turn a vulture! The combination of speed and turning lets it stick to a larger ship's tail much better than a Scout. It also scoops fuel like a champ. People complain about the hard point placement but since the Cobra can turn so well, its dead easy to keep a during solution on any target.

Best of all, the Cobra can boost to such a high speed and maintain its momentum that its lowest speed while losing speed between boosting is the same as the highest speed on a Scout. Thus making it the safest ship to fly in open.

Don't get me wrong but every time i fly with Cobra i died by players and even by npc's. I really want to fly this ship but seems i cannot fly or maybe i don't know how to setup properly the ship or both. Please can you share a good setup and some flying tips for a noob like me.
Thank you

P.S. my favorite ships are viper and atm i fly a courier which i really love it; usually i fit them with max shields and cannons/multicannons; links for setups:

BUILD:
Here is my current Cobra build. I change it up all the time though because the build isnt as important as the core ship properties or piloting skills:

BUILD NOTES:
I always have shield cell banks, but I have never had to use them on my cobra, because it's too fast and quick turning to ever be hit. If you encounter a CDMR, you can run away from anything if necessary, but you can also nickel and dime someone to death. The Cargo is for PP and rares. Could easily be switched out for an Interdictor for bounty hunting. To stay on someone's tail just aim at their exhaust and toggle FAoff, the gimbals will keep you hitting them.

SLEALTH/HOUDINI/SNIPING:
The heat sinks have many uses both in and out of combat. Learn to use stealth to your advantage by lowering your heat sig. Sniping bigger ships from far away. Or escaping when the fight is too big for you. The Scout can actually pull this ghost trick off even better, and this is the only reason to fly it instead of a Cobra imo.

VS BIG SHIPS:
I use a similar spec on my DB, but the Scout is a hair too slow and with a wider profile, so it gets creamed by top mounted turrets on larger ships even with 4 pips to engines, and FAoff. Even Anacondas can just back up faster than the Scout can stick to their tail. The Cobra is just fast enough to counter the reverse thrust of larger ships. The Scout also bleeds speed very quickly, so it can be caught and killed quite easily by a competent FdL CMDR.

ILLUSIONS:
The Scout feels more maneuverable because it can yaw faster and pitch just as fast. However, it lacks the speed and momentum to pull off the important maneuvers that are core to the game's combat mechanics. Those mechanics seem to have been built around the Cobra. When you try those same moves in a Scout it feels kind of brick-like because it just doesn't respond in useful ways. Also, the Scout can jump about 1-2LY further, but it scoops fuel 2x as slow which makes the Cobra a faster ship by far for getting around the bubble quickly.

As a fellow Vulture pilot I think you may have been better of with the the Class 3 Pulse lasers - it would allow you to keep working at his shields longer, noting the 4 pips in shields and 2 in WEP. Its really hard to use a cannon in this situation, although a C2 Multi cannon may have been useful to back up the laser when your capacitor is getting low.

I noticed that you almost got his shields down, but then had difficulty in landing enough shots to finish him off - those DBS are quite manoeuvrable, but so is a Vulture.

When I first got my FDL, I struggled to keep small fast targets in the optimal firing position long enough to damage them. To overcome this, I started using reverse thrust as they are flying towards me, that way I can keep my weapons on them longer. It takes a little practise to perfect the move, but it is very effective and also works well on the Vulture.

I am only talking about vs NPC, so I dont know if it would be a good tactic against another CMDR.

He was a very good pilot and no doubt flew that DBS very well - looks like you had some fun and I am sure you have learnt quite a bit from it.

Its easy to be an armchair critic, is a lot different when your butt is on the line :)

Thanks for sharing.

^ He was very good. I do think after the shield came down it would have gone badly wrong for the scout if we had continued, that is where the cannon is most devastating and the mix is good for specialist shields too. I guess I should have done the backwards thing a bit there and used a bit more fa/off. Hopefully I'll be able to have another friendly with him soon.

I have a Cobra and a DBS and I love them both.
All for and against arguments here are very valid and my DBS spec is basically the same as the average build posted here. Thing is this: in combat I prefer the DBS. Simple. She's fun she's nippy and she's raw. She reminds me of my first car (a 1275 mini clubman) with its basic interior its leather steering wheel and wooden gear stick it looked bargain basement but god was it fun to drive. Like my DBS in combat: raw look, nippy, fun, but most importantly properly specced the DBS is formidable in combat. Something I personally wouldn't describe my Cobra as being.
My Cobra is a great multirole ship and I love her versatility-she can do anything. I use her for PP and trading.
My DBS is a great combat explorer. She is fantastic in combat and has the capability to explore very respectably.
I use her for BH and exploration.
Comparison imho is pointless. Both are great. Both are in my fleet.

The DBS was the first ship I was really excited to get. I think I spent almost as much time trying to find it as I did earning the credits for it(this was before I got a feel for getting around the galaxy). I always feel bad when I have to destroy one in combat, a little like putting down Lassy.

I know how you feel :) It was also the 1st boat I bought that I was excited to buy. She has her faults but for me she has one thing is spades that no other boat I've flown has, and that's character. I know that Cobra is faster, the Asp is actually the best exploration boat and vulture is the best pound-for-pound etc etc etc. I also know that Audies and Beemers are good cars, but they're not an old Mini.

The DBS, I'm sitting on the engine, gaffa-tape everywhere and I swear I can smell the petrol. Ok sometimes I have to tap the dash because I'm sure that warning light is dodgy but she has a style that's all her own* and tbh she's still more ship than I know how to pilot.

*Shabby-chic I think.

I like how allot of CMDR's badmouth it, yet as soon as a competent pilot get's in one even Vulture's have to work to beat it. I also find it laughable saying the Cobra is better as the Db Scout is an upgrade in evry way except the size of hardpoint's aren't bigger so technically not an upgrade there, but they are far superior placed on the ship. The #1 complaint I see come's off as "it won't take a punch so it's no good" but in reallity this is a ship made to be a mosquito to big ship's(fast and hard to hit) which mean's the ship rely's on it's agility and the pilot so a pilot who's not able to "bob and weave" will be shot down fast.
