Yes, I have done so before, in another game. I was very, very infamous on flight combat games on the Xbox 360. I do know what it's like to be at the top, which is why I respect I'm not in that position in this game, and frankly never will be.
I have been in that position too, sim-racing at the turn of the century. I became more involved in the running of clubs & events and it became clear to me that the players who had the most fun were not the fastest & the best but the middle tier, where they knew what they needed to do but were still making mistakes. If I made a mistake it would more or less dictate the outcome. If one of those middle ground players made a mistake it was okay because chances are their opponents would make mistakes too, and they could regain the advantage.
I'm an achiever, I like my stats to be good but I'm not a min/maxer, I just do the best I can & compare myself to my personal goals, rather than to peers.
My Corvette (currently 30,000ly from the nearest threat) is outfitted & engineered as a big ship killer. It's gimballed weapons have a fair bit of jitter & I'd struggle to pop a hauler but I don't need to pop haulers to survive. But for a big ship I'll get in close & tear them apart.
