General / Off-Topic I am feeling it is a waste of time posting in Dangerous Discussion any more ... am I wrong?

Any post or thread that is posted in the Dangerous Discussion section on the forum seems (to me) to fall into one of three groups:

A) Those who support the game and Frontier Developments
B) Those who do nothing but criticise the game and/or Frontier Developments, whatever the reason that may have caused them to do so
C) Those who are here only to troll the forum and possibly force change in the development of the game for whatever reason they may have for doing so.

Anyone who posts in the first group always get flamed by the other two groups.

I've been here a long time, I've seen a lot of changes on this forum, including the introduction of avatars for your profile (yes, there was a time you couldn't have an avatar on the forum). I've seen this forum go from 12 active members to 100,000 registered members. And to be honest, while I welcome the larger community, and accept that we can't all agree, and believe that disagreement is what leads to progress, and I've made some really good friends here (and made stupid mistakes that ruined at least one friendship) ... I wish this forum would go back to 12 active members.

When we were only 12 active members, we didn't need a moderation team, didn't need a list of forum rules that stretched over 5 posts, didn't need a swear filter on the forum ... we didn't need any of that because we all behaved ... even me.

I've wanted Elite IV to become a reality, but it's like the saying "Be careful what you wish for". I feel like I opened the Pandora's Box of computer games and can't close it again. I'm not sure if I want to post on this forum again. I'll always play Elite Dangerous, I'll always support Frontier Developments and I'll always follow development, but I don't feel like posting on this forum ever again.

Am I wrong to feel so peeved off?

I'd go back to bed personally.

Then get out of the other side.

Then have a long hard think about whether or not it's worth letting internet strangers get you feeling so peeved or not.

Then go hang out in the tranquil place thread whatever it's called. That's much more like old times.

Also I've seen many a ruined friendship fixed when both sides admit to what they both did wrong.

I don't know about wrong but it has taken you a long time to get there.
The older I get and the more access people get to display their upbringing. The more I despair for humanity.
Ochone! ochone!

They are not that different from any other gaming forums for the reasons you've stated, to be honest (IMHO) the community here is much more mature than many others I've come across.
Don't let it get you down: ignore the persistent whiners, release your anger by 'reverse-trolling' the trolls, etc.

Have you heard of 419 eaters?

I haven't been here that long, despite having been a kickstarter person, but in my self-important way I thought I'd offer my opinion.

Recently (yesterday) I got so annoyed at certain individuals and despair so much at the perpetually aggravating, closed-minded behavior in certain threads that I was ready to drop the forum too. I got a few PMs from a few great people and it made me realise that the frustrations aren't worth ditching my friends over. I just have to exercise more restraint and more maturity (something hard for me) and keep on the lighter side of things.

With more people will always come a louder background noise that annoys us. Focus on the good stuff and stick to the good threads with good people. A robust ignore filter probably wouldn't hurt, either. Some people just can't be reasoned with.

Take care, don't go, eat bacon.

Yes you are wrong. You must be more detached. Take the things to the second degree. It's only a game. And the humanity is what it is. Personally, I like the forums, with the nice people and other baddies. It is a permanent theater ! This is the party !

I understand how you feel.
I have never been involved with any forum like with this one.
And there has been a frustrating influx of people who do not seem to understand the way ED is being developed.
They want what they want now and they are very vocal and whiny.

I sometimes lose my patience and very often I think that I should avoid this forum.
But truth is... I care too much about Elite.
This game is a dream come true for me.

One thing you can all guarantee is that the more people come to ED the more voices will be in both camps.

Yes I have peeves with ED that I have voiced on this very forum, coming from Elite/Frontier/FFE had me expecting something completely different to ED and the pricing etc. After thinking about it maybe FDEV is right in a way as playing FFE the other night got me thinking games back then were simple but some of the aspects of the BBS make it feel rather more like a wall of text (which has been captured in ED) than anything. Also the pricing of Horizons did take me by surprise but I am in the pre-order camp now and eagerly awaiting the Cobra Mk4.

So yes people can vent and be angry and we all wont agree on everything BUT thats life, if we all agreed on everything and liked everything the whole game would be boring as hell wouldnt it.

Yes we definitely need BBS boards with dragged-from-the-nearest-pub "actors" gracing them again - just like FFE had!
It's no wonder the game feels dead and walls-of-text when you aren't being greeted with "Hello sweetie, anything we can do for you?" in glorious FMV! ;)

hey, FD have the community creating ship skins right now.... why not 'crowd source' some station actors the same way?!

I'd rather Frontier had proper actors in the game to be honest. Egosoft's X series had people who claimed to be actors, but some of the dialogue was terrible, not so much in how it was written, but how it was performed. If Frontier grabbed half a dozen people off the street, it'd be horrible.

Thank you everyone who posted in this thread, it has made me feel better, you are all shining examples of the Elite community. I think I'll avoid looking at Dangerous Discussion for a while though. :)
