I am "Looking" to make cash fast

I am getting sick of all the haulling stuff around, killing pirates for just 1k-50k and I am looking to get the best out of my ship.

I have a Cobra Mk III.

Any advice on Weapons ?

Other stuff?

Ty

I have beam lasers on my ship and I have spent a bit of cash doing it up, but which is faster, hauling for cash or just killing?

2 Fixed C2 Pulse Lasers, 2 Gimballed C1 Beam Lasers
If you don't mind spending CR on ammo sub out for 2 C2 Multicannons
Use the beams to take the shields down quickly.
Use the MC's on bare hull to destroy (throw in the beams for quicker kill).

Drop on of the C4 cargo handlers for a C4 Shield Cell pack. This will allow you to take Anaconda's without authority ship help.

The cobra really is a jack of all trades. I use mine for doing non combat missions to build rep and I have a 1 way trade route I do on my way back from missions to make some cash. I'd look for the high paying 100k+ hauling missions but you'll need rep above neutral to get them. Mining is the most profitable thing I've found in a cobra but I haven't really tried to do trading. While mining I made 700k in ~5 hours after doing some research but I'm sure with practice it's much more profitable.

If you want to do combat I'd recommend investing in a viper. I've been doing the 160 to 200k assassination missions with my viper with around 1 mil of upgrades but I'm far from a great pilot.

The only thing I haven't tried is mining. Do you need a huge cargo bay for mining and a good refiner?

I just made a post about mining in a cobra :)

Pristine metallic belts are pretty rare so I'd settle for major if you can't find one after a while.
I wouldn't bother with asteroid belts as they don't have enough asteroids to be time effective. Just looks for planetary rings but don't use the extraction zones. Just fly into the belt under the safe disengage speed and you'll drop into it safely.

I recommend a cobra with a class 2 mining laser, 4 bay refinery and max cargo but don't remove the shield. You will hit asteroids.

Do a test shot to see whats in the asteroid and only mine gold, palladium and platinum of 10% or higher. I also mine the 30%+ silver but that's just my preference.

Once you find one of the correct asteroids try and find the least rotating point then mine all the fragments in one go while aiming at the same spot on the asteroid. This will cause all the fragments to line up in a nice arc for easier scooping.

Just a hint there's a really good system not too far from the starting systems and it begins with oph.

Personally I think that chasing cash is not the way to go. No way am I playing a "grind", I just love my ship and being out "in the black". I have yet to make my first million and I have been playing since premium beta. What is the rush?

Thank you mate this is most helpful

Its not the case of rushing to get the best ship or the best this and that, I want to build up a nice way of making money without having to go chase it all of the time. If mining is fun, then great, but if not then I can do the other stuff as well.

Couldn't agree more. I've flown some of the nicest ships in Elite and still call the humble Cobra the best... "She may not look much, but she's got it where it counts kid..." :D
Mining's not really my thing.. prefer to explore, trade and shoot afew baddies on my way. Either way, doesn't take long to ramp up the credits... just slow down and enjoy the ride along the way ;)

Is there anywhere that has a full list of available in game weaponry and class variants?

I do not think there is at the moment. When you normally by a game you get a list of about 50% of weapons available to you, but there just doesn't seem to be any information like this in this game. Personally I want to know what other ships there are for people to buy, and their specs.

I hope ED pull their finger out and provide some kind of user guide which can be downloadable for its costumers to read.

Make cash fast? Kill missions with 100-500K reward for dispatching Anacondas I believe. Take several and try not to fail them, because if you do - your rep is screwed and it will be much easier to wipe your save if you plan to improve that faction ever again. Big risk and big reward.

Although I've seen people with properly kitted cobras making millions rather fast on such missions.

I love the word "Kid" it implies that I am young and you are old and wise lol.

I use to play the original version of Elite, and I do not mean the version on Tape. I played it on the old 5 1/2" floppy,(when it had only just been released on floppy) the good old days when you could buy military lasers and kill Thargoids by the dozen. I would love for them to bring Thargoids into this version, wonder how many people would be able to cope with that onslaught.

The only thing I have never tried (in this game) is mining. If it make cash then I will use my work horse pay me best. I will not sell the Cobra as it is still an Icon ship, if not the best all round ship until you get into something mental, like the old Panther.

He was calling you 'kid' because he was quoting Han Solo. ;)

I don't know a list but I'll share what I've learned.
The weaponry is all quite standardised across size/class. There are some very rare rare weapon variants which have reduced fire rate and more damage or less power draw and less damage etc.
It's a bit confusing because weapons apparently used to have different ratings (they don't in the current game) and hardpoints used to be based on class instead of size. At least that's what I've worked out from searching as I only started playing at launch.
The plasma accelerator is the only weapon that seems not to be available for every size hardpoint.

The lasers seem to be pulse<burst<beam in terms of dps but the power draw goes up along with the dps.
Gimballed does less dps and draw similar or a bit more power than the fixed variants.

The kinectic weapons are:
Multicannon (gatling/mini gun 90 round mag)
Cannon (single shot 5 round mag)
Fragment cannon (shotgun like only effective at very close range)
Railgun (very powerful but huge power draw. 1 round mag)
Missiles (dumbfire but powerful. Ammo is expesive)
Torpedos (Heat seeking missiles. Ammo is expensive)

The only other weapon is the plasma cannon which is sort of a thermal version of a railgun but the plasma ball travels relatively slowly. It's fitted on a lot of the npc anacondas and will kill you in a 1/2 shots if you don't use vertical thrust while they're pointed at you.

Just try a bit of everything and keep learning about them and you'll naturally see the credits roll in faster. I'm up to about 4 mil in assets and making a 500k to a mil a day just doing whatever I feel like. The next combat step after a viper seems to be a python so you have to be quite patient. The asp is the step up from a cobra but you're quickly moving to bigger ships that aren't necessarily better and the costs drastically increase.

Personally I want to know what other ships there are for people to buy, and their specs.

I don't know if you want more detailed information but I can give you a rough list of the ships and their roles:

The prices might not be right. Just going by memory.

Sidewinder, Basic all rounder 32k
Eagle, basic fighter 45k
Adder, next level up all rounder 60-70k?
Viper, small fighter that's good enough to tackle nearly all npc's 130k
Cobra, mid range all rounder 380k
Asp, medium/largeish all rounder 6.6mil
Federal Dropship, not sure but probably a large all rounder with some specialties like the clipper. Requires certain rank in the federation navy 38mil
Imperial Clipper, large all rounder with good cargo space and very fast. Apparently has amazing cockpit. Requires rank in imperial navy 40-50mil?
Python, Large combat ship that still has good manouverability 50mil
Anaconda, very large combat with large cargo space but quite slow 150mil

Hauler, basic hauler 53k
Type 6, small hauler 1mil
Type 7, medium hauler 17.5mil
Type 9, large hauler 76.5mil "space cow" "yaw is faster than pitch"

Orca, passenger ship 48.5mil. I heard something about passenger missions are coming but I think it's not much use in current game.

If you can trade inter system you can make a pretty fortune.

I used to trade imperial slaves in Azrael. There is only a 1 LS distance between supplier and buyer inter system so I could make about 38k every 5 mins on my cobra in a lakon much more. Then the latest patch screwed that up.

Rare commodities are still the best a cobra hold full will net you about 800k every 1.5 hours or so if you can get filled up which takes time. Drop off at a rares station above 150 ly and pick up new stock then repeat.

Sorry mate, but you'll have to keep doing this;
