As some of you know, I'm a die-hard metalhead. I've even got the hair.

But I want to break out of my comfort zone. Part of the reason I listen to so much metal is I feel safe.

I'm looking for a genre that's fast, aggressive and crucially... Not metal.

Does such a genre exist?

I'm discounting the faster classical as I have already tried that and it just annoys me lol.

I'm looking for something quite modern, but I wouldn't know where to look.

Cheers all. This could be my new ED music.

80s and 90s punk. Fast and aggressive, hmmm try NOFX, album Punk in Drublic, start with track 9, The Quass.

Try some Peter Gabriel era Genesis. The Knife is more metal than most metal bands.

Hawkwind Live 79 is just beastly. Have a look at the Damned. Shove on some Iggy Pop. Grab some 90's Britpop. Chill with Louis Armstrong. Immerse yourself in 80's cheese with T'Pau. Imagine the 60's with the Hollies, Animals, Beatles etc.

There is worth in everything you listen to.

Why does it have to be modern music. Maybe the thing to do is to start swimming upstream. Read interviews of your favourite bands to see who their influences were, and then find out the influences of the influences. You might eventually find yourself enjoying the music of Lead Belly, BB King, etc

I'm not sure if something's existing you're looking for.
But if you like you can try "Tankard" with their last album "One foot in the grave"...

... it's fast, aggressive and crucially - but it's still metal

Edit: A kind of special music also is "Florence and the Machine".
The woman has something special in her voice - maybe something aggressive and crucially
...and this is no metal

Just want to say thanks for the suggestions guys. Really appreciate it. I listen to so much metal that I'm blind to other genres LOL.

I have a doctors appointment in half an hour so I don't have time to sample everything right now, but I will this evening when everything has settled down for the evening.

Well guys I've listened to all your tracks. Some I enjoyed, some weren't for me, as is only natural.

I also asked this question in my private group chat, however, and one of my friends introduced me to something I never expected...

Metalstep

Now I know I asked for something not metal, but this... No, it's not quite metal, though it certainly owes existence to that genre.

Basically it's a hybrid of metal/dubstep, and guys... Does it get me pumped. So pumped that I immediately went for the weights. I had to start moving.

I've also had a quick ED session with it running in the background on Spotify, and man... Does it make combat fun!

I'm very sensitive to audio cues, it's quite common for people with Asperger's. Growing up I played Ace Combat daily. It wasn't for the planes though, it was for the music.

As such I like having a custom soundtrack via background streaming, because I'm so sensitive to audio that I need a huge playlist, which Spotify offers.

It's great. Metalstep may technically be metal, but it's so radically different to all other metal genres that I'm going to be happy for a long time, exploring this sound.

+1 to everyone.

Ah ... a Blue Stahli man maybe.

Maybe Infected Mushroom, maybe .. Celldweller, remixes by Zardonic, Pendulum.
