Dont think I am going to play this game anymore, the way the forums are evolving I am afraid ED this game may become EVE Online 2. The mentality of big ship big guns, kill everyone is not the mentality of a normal space age fairing society. Dont we have enough killing among ourselves already, why make a game/space simulation into another massacre of the human race? Why cant we have a game of exploration, discovery, establishing relations with other races, learning new ways, new scientific discoveries, learning about other civilizations and their history, why every single game has to turn into a PVP kill all way of life?

Call me whatever you want, I want to enjoy a game where killing another humans just to make myself feel better is not the way of life,

For those who enjoy EVE mentality and sadly lately they are creeping here by bunches, have at it.

It's Elite, you have the option to play it how you want.
Why leave when you are perfectly catered for already?

Exactly this - you are not bound to Open Group. I've reserved a place in case Open ends up being the wrong kind of experience.

It does concern me that a lot of people doing this wll concentrate how Open ends up however, but hey ho.

I used to be one of "those people" that lived off killing other people in EVE (merc, not pirate, but nvm) and I mostly play ED solo now. I doubt I'll be pirating or do much PvP except defend myself whenever the servers can be trusted to play multiplayer. Solo is nice for getting some cash for better gear until then. When you sink all you own into a trade run, being pirated and killed due to lag and what's not isn't very enticing right now, hence Solo. But I fear that Frontier is a bit naive when they expect most pirates to do anything but blow people up. The people that held people up and didn't blow them up in EVE can be counted on one hand, I expect the same attitude to happen here as well.
I see it's a bit easier to get away in ED, but I expect pirates to complain about interdictions not being easy enough and that they'll change that. I hope to be proven wrong, though.

Sounds like the PvE group would be great for you. Also, it sounds like possibly you haven't played the game, and are considering a purchase based on the forums. I think a lot of people playing in the open group don't find that the forum hysteria matches their experience in game.

what, how? with zero features from Eve in and magic Solo button, which is not even sandbox anymore and no sandbox gameplay, how could this possibly be Eve2 :eek: you never played Eve to know? :mad:

Thats the way games are now my friend, especially in multiplayer, you can always play single player

Take a break, give it another try in 1-2 months. Many things will change until then.

Also there are many commanders out there who are completely uninterested in PVP and do favour exploring, trading and all that good stuff. You are just talking to one of them (and call me "boring", but after 30+ hours I haven't killed a single player so far). So feel free to join my (our actually, as I am playing with 2 others) journey across the galaxy...

The PVE group works well for me, no issues with psycho's, npc excepted and when the grouping mechaincs evolve then the galaxy will be our oyster so to speak :)

Well, I don't have that mentality. Nor, it must be said, does anyone I meet in-game, as far as I can tell.

If you're reading the wrong threads in this forum... stop reading them. Go and play the game. It's full of exploration, discovery, players saying "Hi" and discussing stuff as they cross paths, pirates, combat pilots, everything.

Seriously, stop reading too much into a few forum posters' "look at me!" blurb. It's just noise.

Go and enjoy the actual game. :)

The game really does need a general or system wide chat, or perhaps a chat system where channels can be subscribed to - will really help the community respond to piracy and help keep it in check. Though I do think there is a place for it in the lawless regions.

Still, if that's not your bag at all, the Solo play is a great option and as other mentioned you can set up private groups that are online and can play together, but are contained to just group members.

While I do not intend to kill other people, the sense of danger is what keeps me happy while playing.

You have two choices:

1) Play solo.

2) Stay as far away from the core systems as possible. You will almost never encounter other players, let alone ones who want to kill you.
