I am so disgusted...

You have my sympathies but there is no way FD should re-credit you for your loss. I know it wasn't intentional but then when I smacked into an asteroid twisting and boosting away from an Anaconda in a RES that also wasn't intentional but it was my fault.

Happened to me in a Cobra. The rebuy sum wasn't this high of course, but at the time it happened it was also a hudge loss for me. There's nothing you can do about it, so just go on and in a couple of days or weeks you'll get over it ;)

Did this.
Bought a fresh Type 7 transport... decked her out and just barely had enough credits to go buy some rares and build back my bank account. Didn't have the insurance money and... hit boost on the very first flight out of the station.
I stared at the screen for 30 seconds before forcing myself to laugh it off. Thankfully I still had a Type 6 parked in LHS 3447 so I wasn't totally back to a freewinder.
Not a bug... you aren't getting your credits back.
What I've learned: Leave your landing gear DOWN until you exit the starport. This is an automatic thrust limiter and prevents boost from functioning.
Good luck Commander... I know grinding back up is sour grapes.

No, this is not about griefing. It's not about piracy, it's not even about a bug. It's about a stupid accident.

There I was, taking off from Shifnalport with a load of Diso Ma corn to give me a little extra money on my way back to Persephone. I had just gotten finished swapping all my gear out for discounted gear at Founders World to put a few extra credits in my account. I lifted off like normal, reached for the joystick to steer for the docking bay door... and my finger brushed the frigging boost button.

I almost made it. *Almost.* But no, my big ol' Conda smacked into the side of the bay door.

I was running lightly shielded. Not unshielded; I had a 4A with 5 boosters, but that's still weaker than it could've been. It was weak enough. Splat.

8 frigging million credit re-buy. Over a tiny brush of a button I never meant to push. I am exactly back where I started before I went to Founders' World. DAYS of trading, just, flush, right down the toilet. Screw that. Worse, it wasn't a bug, so I have a sneaking suspicion that if I opened a ticket, the FD would refuse to give me my credits back.

I remember reading that they're going to be putting some kind of extra cushion in the insurance mechanic when Powerplay comes out. Well... it's coming just a couple days too late for me. Blech. Thanks for not getting it right the first time. =x

I don't think you can blame them for "not getting it right the 1st time" :)
And yes, they would not give you your money back, and rightly so.
These things happen, and we've all done it. (and worse!)
You have a Conda, (well, had) and Founders World access, so a long time player I assume. I'm surprised it hasn't happened earlier tbh.
Be positive about it, and think of it as a lesson learned. :D
And really, if you could afford to fly a Conda, 8 Mil is peanuts to what you must have in the bank.
Try doing a Community Goal or 2, you can get that kind of money back very quickly and have some fun doing it as opposed to mindless trading. :D

I still haven't killed myself this way, twice getting in over my head in the sidewinder with bigger class NPC's, twice to asteroids and then some jerk killed me in a CZ for the Sobek Boys CG because he got hit by cross fire. I mean I get hurting a guys ship and chasing them off if they stole a kill or something, but it wasn't the case and he insisted on ruining the rest of the CG for me.

I will be looking for him in Open Play and will attempt to throw a wet blanket on his day next time even if it means taking a 6k bounty to outright kill him, my first real crime will be revenge. I'm sorry you can't get revenge on the station wall, that is truly a powerless feeling.

And again with people paying so little attention that they say the same thing I said and think they're arguing with me. If you're going to say what this person said, please consider that it is a waste of time and go read another thread.

Wasn't arguing... I was agreeing with what you said in the OP.

It must be a bug since boost should not work with your landing gear down. No-one should fly in station with it up right?

My boost button is placed where I can reach it when I need it, but where it's almost impossible to hit accidentally.

All of my post-beta rebuys are from collisions with stationary objects, and 2/3rds of the cases, or ~95% of my total spent on insurance, are from collisions with the inside of the station. The most expensive one, done after I moved my boost key, again, was a deliberate test.

Also, stations have enormous, if not infinite, mass for collision calculations. No ship will survive a high speed boost into a station at any steep angle.

And again with people paying so little attention that they say the same thing I said and think they're arguing with me.

They're not arguing, they're agreeing with you. LOL

I think you're just too annoyed with making a rookie mistake to see it. :D

It happens. Sorry for your loss. At least you had plenty for the rebuy. I don't think FD would give you your money back if you opened a ticket... and nor should they. It sucks for sure, but it's all part of the game.

Had a similar incident in my Python today. 9 million in combined bounties in 3 hrs... landed at the station, cashed 7 million in fed and local bounties, and took off to go cash in Empire and Alliance. Well as I near the mail slot I, for whatever reason, was holding in my vertical thruster switch on my stick. I had just enough time to throw my throttle back and yell an expletive before I smashed into the station. So 6 million gone in rebuy as well as 1.4 million in Empire and 800k in Alliance. Up till today I had 5 insurance claims that totaled a little over 2 million. Then I go and triple that in 3 seconds.

You're bound to be angry, I would be!
Not what you want to hear I know but "mindlessly dedicate entire days..."? You're not doing the CGs very efficiently if you only earned 8 mil from 3 of them.
I did 5 CGs in the last week or so and have racked up >100mil with only a few hours here and there.

You said it like you were throwing it in my face, trying to argue a point with me. Or, I dunno, maybe stress is making me misunderstand things. I did just watch my ship blow up. :p Sorry. I'll try to ignore such things in the future.

It might be the stress... losing 8 million due to a single key press can be a stress inducer.
I wasn't trying to throw it in your face. In the OP you said you had a "sinking fealing" that opening a bug report would not get you your money back so I just through this in to confirm that your sinking feeling is probably right. I could have been clearer I suppose. Losing weeks of effort in such a short period of time can be stressful. I lost my T7 right after having returned from weeks out exploring... I cashed in my exploration credits and bought the type 7. After weeks out in deep space I had apparently forgotten a lot of my key bindings and killed myself right away.

My uncle boosted into an authority vessel when he was trying to scratch his butt. My other uncle accidentally jumped into a star while he was adjusting the radio. It happens. We miss them both, terribly, but we bought a Fer De Lance from the inheritance!

See, it all has it's upsides!

yeah i did that in my old T6.. full of gold.... was not happy, promtly moved that boost button to some where slightly more inconvenient.I did work out last night, my trade python with gear down 4pips in sys and 2 in engins lets me make about 89 m/s, can hurt myself doing that, and as a bonus i know i can speed if/when they bring in the 100 m/s limit :p
