I bought the right ship, kind of....

With how system states work now, and the ludicrous profits mining can make, if you can find the right place, I wondered, has trading had a similar benefit?

I think, maybe it has. I found loop routes on Eddb.io of around 35-50 ly, offering 9k credits a ton profit on large pads. Lucky me then, to have traded in my type 9 for a Conda (better jump range). I can make nearly 4 mil credits a run on this....

Except mining makes this look pathetic, and transport passengers missions can be quite good too.

So I win, but I also lose?

Unless people have found better routes themselves of course....

Some people are probably more interested in the effect on the simulation that trading certain goods has. What job pays most tends to change every few updates, I think to some degree to incentivise doing a new or changed job. Thanks to persistent motherlode asteroids, players are forced to move around more.

Let me put it this way. My Asp Ex miner I've been practicing with, has a 64t cargo hold. Let's be real generous, and say I sell void opals for around 200k, just above the galactic average pretty much. I'd make 64 times 200k equals 12.8 million! And that's the really low end of mining. You might have to move around asteroid fields from time to time, but never enough to outweigh the crazy profits you can make compared to trading.

I understand it earning more, but not this much more. Maybe trading needs more work, I certainly think it has potential in the new system.

There is certainly more potential, for some people mining might be too dull to do even with the new effects, others might find trading boring. There is already a noticeable difference between trading goods directly and trading missions (when allied and in the right state and within the rushed tinelimit). This needs careful consideration so not everything else has to spiral upwards in the next patch. Combat missions are probably easier now due to the fixed USSs and scenarios, trading might actually be next on the list.

Do whatever you enjoy!

Or alternate as I do, spent the past week mining which is pretty good and week before I did passenger missions which was alright especially the evacs .

Now I'm bounty hunting to get my combat elite for the triple then I'll go get the guardian gear for some bug hunting.
