I Came, I Flew, I Did Not Like...

The Krait Phantom - loaded with limpets it’s just OK for messing with megaships and other structures.

The Mamba - It looks so good. That’s really all it does. Can someone please sell Zorgon Peterson something other than a tea cup to use as a fuel tank?

Maybe it’s just me and I never embraced the idea of bounty hunting from a Ferrari running on fumes. But that’s pretty much what this is.

Overall, just not impressed here.

Thanks for sharing.

If new ships are better than old ships, you'll whine that the old ships are now obsolete. "RIP AspX!!!"

If the new ships are not obviously better, you wont spend time finding a niche for them, you'll just whine that it's not exactly what you wanted.

Usually combat oriented ships do not have large fuel tanks.

My PvP Vulture runs on a 1C fuel tank... nothing wrong with that. I can stay in combat for more than one hour before I need to refuel. Restocking the Pacifiers on the other hand...

indeed. not tried it myself but indeed the mamba seems to have heat issues, yet people use that to ask for the craziests things. i also would like the mamba to be a small ship but, oh well ...

anyway it would be very weird for frontier to completely nail two new ships on a first attempt, so some balancing is likely (and some forum excitement is granted).

As long as you don't use plasma slugs a 3C is sufficient for combat imho.
It's just a ship I schlepp to starports, as with the FdL. Fly there in a Hauler or other shuttle, transfer vessel.
Am using a D rated FSD too.

I've yet to try a Krait (beta or live), but the Mamba handled OK for me on it's first outing.

Yes, the tiny fuel tank meant lots of scooping while I hunted my assassination target (and I bought some fuel, to avoid C3 scooping even more). Weapons quickly dispatched my weakling Cobra Mk4 target, they also heated my ship up pretty good.

Biggest disappointment for me was, for a ship that's advertised as one of the fastest in production... It just didn't feel like it. My Cobra Mk3 is a good bit faster, and probably could've completed that mission about as comfortably (or more so, given the C4 fuel scoop and 2X size fuel tank).

Yep. Phantom is a boom, Mamba is a bust. I already own a fancy, expensive toaster; don’t need another.

Stop with the ad hominem attacks. Criticize his opinion, not him.

This is a good example of criticizing the opinion and not the person.

The Mamba isn't for me in the same way the FdL isn't for me. It's flight characteristics just don't give me what I'm looking for. But, the Mamba seems like a solid ship. I have no doubt the heat issues will be tamed.

What I am using the Krait for makes the Mk II a better choice for me, but the Phantom is pretty darn nice, and looks to be very useful. If one of the Phantom's c5 slots were upgraded to a c6 the maths might change. The versatility of he Mk II and the fact that I already bought the 'Raider Kit' for it will keep me in the Mk II.

None of this means either of the two new ships are failures or poor. They just don't make me want to change seats.

either ad hominem or we're getting a bit oversensitive here. i find both opinions worthwhile. IndigoWyrd is just saying he doesn't like the new ships and isn't going to fly them, which is just fine. however there is a wave of ridiculous demands just a day after the ship premiered, because a lot of people seem to want to have their dream ship tailored to their wishes, so sidereal6 is also spot on.

I think you'll discover that these "you" that you're talking about are different people. Check and see if IndogoWyrd really said "RIP AspX" or not. I suspect there are different people and/or different groups of people. Of course they will have different views, and even contradictory. Group A think X, while group B think Y. So to say X not equal to Y, and then assume B is the same as A, and therefore B is wrong, isn't a valid critique.

The only thing his post is spot on is that some people love the new ships and feel the Phantom is a AspX killer, while Indigo might have a different view or opinion, and that's normal. We all should have different views and opinions. He doesn't like it. Others do. Nothing wrong in him having a difference of opinion. The group isn't homogeneous after all. Different people, different views.

Funny, I was actually at Jameson last night while CMDR Wyrd was testing these ships out and he pretty much said the same thing in the chat last night.

I will say that after some dabbling, the Krait Phantom looks to be an exciting medium class explorer. Intially I had my doubts but with the slightest of engineering, I had it at 50ly in full kit and could have easily squeezed another handful of ly's out of it.

The Mamba on the other hand....a resounding "meh" from me as well. Serious heat issues - which I'm sure will be sorted during beta - but none the less. I have multiple ships that are already faster than it will ever be so for "racing," it's a non-starter. As to combat, it's basically a reskinned FdL and I quit flying ferdies years ago.

Zorgon Peterson is running their ships on Tea? That's amazing! Do they have to stop every afternoon for refueling? Do they launch Crumpets instead of Limpets?

(I'm here all week)
