This is clearly a hypothetical question, however, it occurs to me that unless I'm missing something, there is no other realistic way to make enough coin to buy AND maintain a carrier, except deep core mining.
Exploration works, although that is a long, long time in the black to make any meaningful money. Other vocations just don't seem to provide a sustainable income of the level required to not just buy a carrier in a reasonable amount of time (for someone triple Elite and with many, many flight hours) but to also maintain it without needing to find a spot with LTD's (or similar) and bleed it dry (if this was a thing).
Admittedly, I've not been in the game 'properly' for a few months, so I might have missed a sudden increase in say, mission rewards.. but I don't see it.
Is this it then? To apparently command the largest civilian ship in the known galaxy, you have to don your hard hat, hi-vis jacket, hoist a pickaxe over your shoulder, and hum 'Whistle while you work'?
