Weird stuff going on - for some reason despite having a full engine capacitor, and 4 pips to engines I can't boost - I get "not enough in capacitor" or similar message - anyone had this and got a fix?
What is the size and rating of your thruster slot, and what is the size and rating of the item you have fitted in there?
I suspect you have a woefully underspecified item in the thruster slot.
What grade of cap are you using in relation to your ship specs? I've heard that underperforming modules will hamper your ability despite the HUD reading, as there's simply not enough power in the cap to boost. 100% of a thimble instead of 100% of a barrel, kind of idea.
In other words, Your ship may have a thruster class 5 slot but have a class 4 or lower thruster installed. It is cheaper but not powerfull enough to push your ship.
Most likely it's that you have a better class of thruster than you do a power distributor. Power distributor determines the amount of energy stored in your three capacitors, and the thruster determines how much energy it takes to boost.
You downsized your power distributor. To boost you need a certain amount of reserve in your ENG, if your distributor is too small, even at 100% capacuty it's not enough. You can downsize in certain ships and able to boost, but it's a trial and error process.
So upgrade your distributor (take a higher class), should fix your problem.
OK weird - I don't remember downgrading my power distributor, but I must have done, because a new, higher grade sorted this - thank you all, and apologies for being a numpty
