I can't find: digit designs, chemical inventory, weapon inventory. Where could they be? I clear all land settlements in a row in systems. But I can't find them at all..

Digital Designs from Habs, Chemical Inventory from Refineries / Industrial / Agri, Weapon Inventory from Military / Industrial / Refineries. Do remember you are allowed to change systems if the one you are in isn't giving stuff - finding stuff is fun :)

(Missions also, but if you pick the missions with rewards AND go to nice targets for looting ...)

Whoever came up with the fact you need 10 of each of those things for basic suit mods should be sent to Hutton Orbital in the slowest Apex Shuttle ever.

Finding them is like near impossible unless you go grinding missions or find someplace that drops them, which I have had luck with neither. So far I have... checks 1 Digital Design, and 0 or the other two (that's the build requirements for More Suit Storage, because that's what I'm looking for).

"grinding" missions?

We've been asking fdev to allow us to do missions for engineers for years. You can get two of those mats in denominations of 5 often, so that's "grinding" two missions for each. Most of the time you can blast out a couple engineer mods after an evening doing various types of missions, rarely to the same locations (of which there are 28 variants across 7-8 types of missions)

What else is there you'd prefer to do? Navy ranks perhaps? HGEs?

If you define doing a handful of missions as a grind then I'm amazed you still play horizons, if you do at all. Sure, it'd be nice to get mats from combat but that's still just a grind to someone else.

Getting data for engineers is the least grindy thing in Elite.

What I'm saying is I've had no luck finding missions with those items or finding them through "emergent gameplay". Your results may vary. Mine have been on the bad side of RNGesus. I play an hour or so per day since Oddy launched, and... yeah, that's how much I managed to collect because I haven't been having good luck.

I haven't had problem with Horizons and engineering, except for Marco Quint, but that's a universal constant like gravity and the speed of light.

And, I don't know what I'd prefer to do right now. I can tell you I'm not really enjoying bouncing around the bubble in a search for materials for ground tech. Probably will go out of the bubble this weekend and just go scan plants and find some new planets. It'll be more rewarding than seeing what the next spot of irregular markers has in store (but it's probably 4 skimmer drones or a bunch of cheap mercs).
