i can't kill npc ships

i wanted to play this game again. i knew the npc's where updated but no wonder i raged quit 2.1 the npc's arn't balanced. they have more health and shields then you and can out turn you in any ship. i've been in an lawless systems training my combat skill all day and i cannot kill 1 npc ship. when i'm about to kill one they run away or sytem sec show up and steel the kill or i get 0-400 credits. i'm saying the npc's are not balanced cause before 2.1 i knew what ships and loadouts to use. when i fly a vulture i expect to be out turned by an eagle but i don't expect the eagle to kill me in less then 2 minutes. *sigh* if any one has tips for me on how to "git gud" please tell me. i wanna start playing this game again. i'm wondering if it's cause my combats rank is master. i would reset but i don't want to start in a side winder again

You can ask Support to lower your rank but keep the rest. Anyway, no, they do not have more health and shields than you can have. Start by posting a link to your coriolis build. :)

When you fight NPCs make sure there are cops around and that the NPCs are wanted. dont go one v one yet or do combat in Anarchy systems.

I have found the jumping out before they die an issue as well. Only answer; is to target modules, like FSD, thrusters and others. Taking out, NPCs is harder and needs a little thought now. Before, I would just keep hitting the hulls, but now, you need a plan. FSD is a good start.

Why lawless? More targets yes, but higher systems, pay better bounties, unless you fit an Kill warrant scanner.

a) use all thrusters (up/down; left/right; forward/backward; roll; pitch; yaw)
b) the eagle is the most agile ship in this game
c) use pip management (4 pips to shield if the enemy is firing at you)
d) use chaff
e) keep an eye on the "blue zone"
f) try to relearn how the NPCs fight, a normal RES and the help of the security is a good starting point

What rank are the NPCs you are fighting?

Start in low RES, and build up from there.

Low RES now have massively aggressive police forces slamming pirates, stay near the cops until you are confortable destroying NPCs on your own. Then move to regular RES, then high RES, etc.

Also take cargo space and limpets if you have space, destroyed ships now drop materials, and there will be a lot of destroyed ships (and a lot of materials to pick up) in low RES.

npc's i fight are mostly expert and above cause the game only spawns high rank npc's for me

cause i want to practice combat and lawless are the only systems i can fight without getting a bounty

No offence intended but it could be that you are not playing the pip management game and using Flight Assist Off when in a turning battle - maybe you are, but if not you need to get a grip of the basic tenets of Elite combat namely:

1) If being fired upon by enemy ship you need 4 pips to shields (unless you know you can tank it for last minute kill type thing)
2) If chasing an enemy trying to get on your 6 then if not fired upon at the time (since both manoevring) more pips to engines and some to weaps to recharge)
3) Turn FA off when turning so you can turn faster
4) Keep thrust in blue range so you turn faster - use boost if available so you turn even faster faster! :)
5) When enemy getting back in sights if your preference turn FA back on to provide some stability and more pips to weapons to unload murder.
6) When enemy has turned and is jousting you again, 4 pips to shields - i.e. back to step 1.

So PIP management and use of FA off to help with turning battles is the basics of ELITE : Dangerous - when you get a hang of that things get alot easier. If you just try to fight at max thrust all the time with pips at 2-2-2 you wont end up very well. Not saying this is you, but if it is then it may help, and if not, then hey, may help someone else :)

why can't i fight 1v1 with nps'? i avoid large ships and npc wings cause i know i can't fight them and i find kill stealing from cops boring

Everything cmdr Zadian said. You can't approach npc fights the same way you had in the past. I had to learn this myself. I essentially had to relearn how to fight NPC ships and realize that I can't necessarily pop every npc I see without much worry. Before every fight think about the ranked ship that you're thinking of engaging. Look to see if you'll be getting any help, or if they're in a wing. Check to see how man shield cell banks and chaff you have. These are all things you have to consider now. I personally LOVE the new NPCs that are in game, although I can understand how others might find it frustrating. Especially since they were never that hard before.

If you want 1v1 then take missions and look at the level required, before you do. You can get missions above your own rank, but the risks are higher. At the same time, you can get missions ranked lower and the 'ships out to get you' and normally lower ranked. Just to practise with if you wish.

People tend to overhink their combat behavior, and pull something beyond their skills. Go back to basics - fly backwards and keep enemy in your sights at all time. You'll get shot at, but at least you can return the favor :)

Yeah anything Expert Rated and above is serious business that will melt you if you aren't prepared.

Consider asking Support to drop you back to Harmless.

Don't fight in lawless systems and expect to get paid. You need a Kill Warrant Scanner if you're going to make money in lawless systems. If an NPC runs then you need a Wake Scanner to scan the wake and follow him to finish him off.

Don't stop firing if the cops are involved. If you stop firing chances are you'll miss the last shot and you won't get the bounty. Ensure you get the final 2% of the hull.

Consider focusing on Engineer mods. They've saved my hide a few times and will be necessary to even the playing field at Master or higher.

Because you will lose.

i expect to loose when i'm fighting ships with higher ranks and better ships then me and that are in are a wing but when i'm in a 1v1 fight with a npc outside a combat and hi rez zone, that has the same rank and ship as me i expect a fair fight not barley unwinable fight

when i'm about to kill one they run away or sytem sec show up and steel the kill or i get 0-400 credits.

NPCs can only steal kill credit if you pause between firing at them for a LONG time. When I say long, I mean loooooooooong. So this is the first clue that your offensive skills need more than a little polishing. You should be able to keep up a near constant stream of damage on your opponent with a least one of your firing groups. Even if it's just a single pulse laser. As long you have hit the target in the last ~30 seconds, you will get kill credit. You don't even need hit it first. You can just tag it once with a solid hit before it dies.

As for them "running away", just buy a missile launcher or 2 and subtarget their drives. Knock them out as soon they start fleeing, and they aren't going anywhere any time soon.

I use mines on my Anaconda when running missions. I'm fitted with all mine launchers but added two rocket launchers to finish them off. They just follow you till they blow up. Make sure you keep them directly behind you. A few will jump away but most just die.

If this is the case, the truth is that you are not nearly as good as you thought you were. You really need to follow the advice that is being given in this thread. NPCs respond to your maneuvers much better with this iteration of AI compared to pre 2.1 srandards. I had to basically relearn how to fight npcs when 2.1 dropped, but rest assured, they are all beatable.

this tread is all the braggers dream :)

I Love the game but I had to stop playing, it made me so angry my wife got upset.. but I still hope that in the in the future the Fdev get their head out of their asps and fix NPC balance again, Small ship is the only way now and thats no fun to trade in. Dont listen to all the braggers they would not listen to you anyway , i bet they using smashed hootas and are sitting upside down on a nail mat just to make the game more interesting. [sour]
