I can't see ED being successful on consoles

I have twenty plus bindings on my xbox controller. Once you start using combos (A + UP, X + LEFT) it becomes fairly trivial and a keyboard only becomes necessary for typing in star systems.

I will admit, the game is, in my opinion, much better controlled from a joystick. I go between using joystick and keyboard to gamepad and the only real difference, for me, is the precision handling of the joystick.

Hopefully we can all play in the same universe. I think 1 problem might be the P2P network and player count. I think theres restrictions on console on bandwidth and stuff.

Performance should be fine cos console owners are happy enough with 30fps and 720p, What we consider stuttering and low detail is their game running perfectly.

I can see elite being very popular on consoles. It's the type of game that has been denied console owners and I think they'll lap it up. It's going to be like the Wild West though :D

I usually use a HOTAS in front of my monitor to play the game but every now and then I hit the couch, grab my PS3-controller and connect my PC to the TV. I have no problems playing the game with a gamepad.

Easy, they will introduce a power that gives you an auto-target module, and then it is perfect for the console...

j/k: I assume consoles and PC/Mac will not be in the same universe. XBox players will not like a universe where the easy discovery is already done.

It would be just the same for any new player on any platform, why single out the consol brigade?

Also I tried a PS3 style controller before I got my HOTAS and it was for me at least aweful, almost prefered K+M.

Having played flight simulators for years with joysticks, I actually love playing ED with my 360 controller. Elite isn't a fast paced game so it's nice to be able to sit back and relax! Handling of the ships feels excellent with the control pad because they have built the game with controllers in mind. The level of configuration available allows you to have multiple functions assigned to buttons with the use of a shift button so you can pretty much have everything you need on the controller, but yes it will be interesting to see how this is handled on the xbox one, as multiple functions isn't something I have ever come across in a console game.

As for graphics I would have no worries that the xbox one can make this game look good... if my 3 year old macbook with a 512mb graphics card can run the game reasonably well then the xbox shouldn't have any trouble.

I'm happy ED is coming out on the xbox, and hopefully it does ok.

I think it will be just fine on consoles. Games like War Thunder are quite popular and usually played without the simple control setting. And that is popular despite the huge disadvantage that controllers have over 21st century computer assisted mouse control. War Thunder is less forgiving than ED for dogfighting. If people enjoy that game, I don't see why they won't like this one.

I guess the big thing is price. War Thunder being free to play. People are probably more willing to give it a go.

you mean Gimbal Weapons?

And as far as I know its already been said that Xbox players will join same BGS, there will always be just one Galaxy.

By the time they find out about that, it'll be to late, as they've already purchased the game.

I can see a prob or two with ED doing well on consoles, and the controller question isn't one of them.
