I can't update to 2.1 Horizons. "Failed to read from stream. Network connection closed" - Edit Update! Solution in comments

I'm getting this error where trying to update to Horizons 2.1. You can see the download bar is not behaving correctly and it never really begins the "sync files" process.

Anyone else have this issue when trying to update? How can I fix it?

Ok after reading on reddit I found this and it fixed my issue.

The launcher can sometime fail to download some files and stuck you in a sync error loop, ending with this error message : "Failed to read from response stream. Network connection closed."
To correct this error, follow these steps :

  • Open your Elite : Dangerous installation folder (in AppData/Local/Frontier_Developments if you have setup your launcher on the default path OR in the launcher installation folder if you set yourself a different path)
  • Search *.part and *.progress files
  • Delete them
  • Close and relaunch the launcher
  • Hit the big blue button to finish the installation
  • Profit

This issue was seemingly plaguing the beta. Happened to me with every single beta release. Sad to see it's still around. :/

Use box top right to search entire folder. I had this problem and the solution is exactly what space-junky says. You need to delete all .part and .progress files otherwise one will revive the other and crash out.

I had this - solved it very simply with a reboot (of the computer - not just closing and re-opening the launcher).

Yes, I searched the entire folder, I even went as far as to delete the darn things and still have the error, and I have also rebooted several times.

Make sure Windows Defender and any other antivirus software is disabled.

Delete both .part and .progress files, as suggested.

Delete temporary internet files.

Restart computer and double check to ensure AVS is still disabled.

Try again.

*edit*

BIG surprise as I'm eating my words now. Thanks FDev! No Elite for me today, it seems.

I've tried everything. Can't install. I started out with an update that failed. Have now uninstalled and deleted everything a few times. Cannot install at all now. This is pretty crappy. Please let me install Elite again!!!
I saw a post about caching servers and Australia - I assume it's the same as I've cleared everything out locally.

Try a proxy/VPN if you can. I know FD have a theory that some ISPs are interfering with traffic and a VPN has cured it for some.
