Today I decided to stop running rares and thought I'd give mining a go. Progeny was in party with me and talked through outfitting my asp to take on the community event for Osmium to Abres. I managed to get my asp cargo capacity up to 104 ton and 7 slots on a refinery, two collector limpets and two medium mining lasers and off i went. I got one run under my belt with no problems but as i was returning with a cargo of over 80 tons in Osmium, Gold, Platinum and Palladium i was set upon by 2 NPC's.

Lost the lot.

I'm going to bed.

P.S. They say in space no one can hear you scream.. well i could bloody well hear Progeny laughing! :eek:

Ah, it's all part of the experience. It's the biggest caveat when running no shields in an effort to maximise cargo space. There's only about a day and a half left on that event, next time a similar one comes up I think an escort is called for. I noticed that when you're in a wing and you sell items your wing members get a percentage. That should be a good incentive for anyone offering up a bit of protection.

Mate that's what we are here for - get into fleet chat, or on the XBL party next time you plan to go mining, and get a couple of Cobra's to wing with you. Pirates Rumhole is CAG now, so as Fighter Wing commander, you can go to him, and he can get some of his pilots to provide escort for you. - also if myself or Equ1n0x are around, - ping us, and I'll provide cover for ya also.

Its bad I know but it did put a smile on my face, as I have had many similar things happen to me. As Darkstar said, just wing up, or see if myself or Darkstar Is around to help.

It seems to be a good earn through this community event, when you don't get jumped by Piratey types.

There are a few systems close by that have jobs/mining missions posted on their bulletin board that pay huge amounts for a few tons of whatever material they need. Osmium is used in the community event but you also mine for other resources like Gold, Palladium, Platinum and Painite and scour these bulletin boards along the way.

Abres is where the event is taking place, that's where you drop off Osmium. (Only a day or so left on that though)
Lao Yano - LHS 2260 - XI Ursae Majoris are the places that have the occasional mining missions.

Watch out for undesirables that say 'Aaaaarrrr' a lot.
