so... i started Elite a few weeks before Premium Beta... played the combat missions until i figured i couldn't get any better... May 30th rolled around and i got into the Multiplayer. damn fine fun.
figured I'd do combat for awhile.. tossed some gimbaled laser on the sidewinder and went to town on the NPC's... man i was killin them left and right. i even went as far as taking out a few commanders that were wearing red colors... i was having FUN i tell ya.
before i knew it, i had over 200k credits in the bank.. i made the decision, time to buy a Cobra.
i trotted my happy self down to the local ship dealer .. pointed out the Cobra of my dreams... laid my cash on the table... then lockup... had to exit out the game by way of Ctl-Alt-del. loaded the game back up... Lo and behold.. i still had a sidewinder, but my bank account was 111k credits light. ooof, felt like someone had punched me in the Gut. i had heard of that bug.. but damn, it really hurt when it bit me. so, instead of stressing out over it, i decided to shut it all down for the night.
Next morning, (i'm retired so i can play when i want to) i booted up the computer and logged on to my Mail... had a Nice one from Frontier , told me my name had been approved for Elite. excitedly i logged into the game to realize that back then, a name change meant a total reset of the account.
WOW, i was still in a sidie, but now i was back down to a loaner laser and a meager 1000 credits in the bank. meh... i lost 200K credits in less than 12 hours. i kicked the table leg and , well the Table didn't say ouch. so i put on my big boy pants and got back to work.... i remembered how i had done it before, so it wasn't THAT hard to get credits.
This time i decided to shoot for the Eagle... i kept doing the combat stuff as it was fun, and before long i had enough to buy myself a Brand new Eagle and outfit it. MAN that ship is a BLAST... i felt like a God running around.. twisting, turning, floating like a Butterfly, Stinging like a Bee.
fast forward a week and a half ( i had cut my play time down to once every other day for only a few hours each time. (that way i wouldn't burn myself out) FD decided it was time for PB2.0 and they said they needed to do a wipe, BUT they were gonna let us keep our credits we had earned, and they would also give us credits equal to our ship+weapons. i suddenly had 225k credits, i decided to try the Cobra Again... this time i kept my hand on my credits while me and that slippery ship salesman made the deal. 2 minutes later i was the proud owner of a Cobra... i tossed some weapons on her, and found out that she didn't handle like a Eagle at all... no matter... i had 48k credits and a cobra.
up until now i had avoided trading, but now i threw myself at it with a vengeance... i flew to each station.. writing down what was cheap, and what sold high, i formed a trade route, and i started making money hand over fist.
2 hours ago, i topped my bank account with 1.5 million credits and decided to try the next ship up.. the Lakon, man, she is a dump truck... so far i have done any runs with her... i'm running back through all the stations writing down my notes again.. but there is one thing i HAVE to say about this big girl.
