I decided to put fixed beam lasers on my Cobra's small hard points.

Yep. Fixed on those hard points.

Sounds daft, right?

Well actually, yes, it is daft.

That said! I've also got a maxed out G5 CE PD, with super conduits! Aha, yes!

And my beams are G3 efficient.

Results? I can fire the beams indefinitely on full power to weapons. And at default settings, still manage a whopping 25 seconds!

I've also got thermal shock.

Honestly, my Cobra feels much more powerful now. These things paired with shock cannons... Oh man...

I use turreted beams in my small slots and it works fine. I can strip the shields of anything chasing me and then turn on them with my multi-cannons. No engineering and I normally run at 3 pips to weapons. Heat is the only real issue and that is manageable.

A big factor for me, was that I wanted to immunise myself against chaff. All my weapons are now fixed, and I feel a better pilot for it. Not top-tier, but competent, certainly.

I can see the need for that, but hitting the fire options, you can 'fix' turrets. Also beams just stripe the target, when chaff is fired. They maybe swinging all over the place, but because the beam is constant, they still paint the target.

True. However, turrets do much less damage. Especially when they only hit on occasion.

I've been trying to "git gud" before I seriously start to take on the grind to combat elite, and getting the hang of a weapon that can reliably ignore the debuff that is chaff, is a big part of that effort.

Yep, Un1k0rn is starting to become a fighter. Even joined Powerplay, and loving it. Adds a whole new objective.
