I did a very stupid thing....

Well, I finally let greed get the better of me...

I'm flying my T7, and check the BB to see 2 (count 'em, 2!) supply missions to the same system (different stations though). :)

Total of 200,000cr for transporting about 60 tons of stuff, leaving me plenty of room for some other profitable cargo.

I grabbed 'em quick, loaded up with PerfEnhancers to fill capacity and off I went.

Can you tell where this is going yet? ;)

So, I got to the system, and it was only when I checked the nav screen that I noticed that BOTH stations were Outpost type and I therefore wouldn't be able to land...:(

'<rude word>!' I thought.

So, only my option was to abandon the missions and take the Rep hit, and the fine, then try and make the best of it.

After a bit of scouting round the Galaxy Map I found an Anarchy system nearby with a proper station, which I felt sure would have a Black Market, so I went there, and sold the cargo, which just about covered the fines.

Plus a bit of credit from the 2 NPC pirates who thought they could take my cargo on the way to the station...KWS ftw :p

So, totally my own fault, but it got me thinking.

If the BB can tell me missions aren't suitable for me, because of lack of cargo space and so on, why can't it tell me they are unsuitable for me because I'm flying the wrong ship?

Or give me the option to change (or buy) a suitable one and transfer the cargo?

Just a thought...

Mind you, it made for an interesting little adventure, so it's not all bad! :D

I might be missing something but why did it need to have a black market for PEs?

I know what you're saying but I don't want the game to hold my hand every step of the way, one of the reasons I love this game is that it makes you think about each decision you make :)

I assume he had to sell the haulage that became stolen when he abandoned the mission.

Anyway, I agree that the BB should make such mission unavailable because it is not obvious what type of station these missions are for.

You can check the System Map for the mission stations, and see what they are (IF you remember) :)

I was simply blinded by greed (or tired if you prefer!) and didn't, so completely my own fault.

But the option to swap the cargo to a different ship (such a Type 6) would be welcome I think.

And as you and codemwnci both mentioned, abandoned haulage becomes stolen so you need a Black Market to sell at.

I offloaded the PE in the normal commodities market.

I think I'd support that ship/ship cargo transfer idea, over a simplified mission marking. I like the fact that the game has places for you to make big mistakes, so having more tools to fix your mistakes seems more interesting to me than having the game remove the chance to fail altogether.

Personally I find it frustrating that the game filters missions your ship can't handle (e.g. for cargo capacity). Makes total sense for haulage missions because they want to fill your cargo hold immediately, but for 'fetch' missions, why can't I grab them with one ship, swap to another ship, and bring back what they are asking? Keep the red text on the mission details to warn players that they might not be able to do this mission without reoutfitting / swapping ships, but let them take it and worry about how to complete it.
