Newcomer / Intro I don t get the stations being blocked by people who go AFK or go make a samwich

Probably the main thing that annoys me the most is getting to a station and getting refused access because someone is blocking the dock
If there is a person in queue the ship should be automatically put in the hangar so that other ships can come in
This is analogous to a car going to the car wash and just blocking access to anybody else instead of parking on the side and letting others use the service

But I heard that this was done on purpose which I don t understand especially when you have a mission on a timer
I wish this would get changed

Also twice tonight I was granted access to a platform only to have someone ninja it
I don t get it. In an airport if a plane ninja's a runway on landing the **** is going to hit the fan.
I don t think players should be able to do that or be fined for it. The lock should not happen if that was not the ship that was given access

It's an odd game dynamic. Do FD really think players get enjoyment while sitting there for 20 minutes listening to "docking request denied"?

Also bear in mind that NPCs also take up that limited space.

Needs re-thinking imo.

Players can't ninja a docking space, as far as I know - they'll get a fine for blocking the pad and then destroyed for loitering. Are you sure you had the right pad?

If you're having trouble docking, just log out, go to solo mode, dock, do your business and log back in to open. It's a bit of a kludge, but it works.

I'm assuming your playing in Open? Just quit the game and re-join in Solo and dock, do your business and leave. Quit the game and then re-join in Open.

I agree it's not really a solution, but it is a way around it.

I'd like to see a docking system whereby if there is not enough room you are held in a queue. As pads become free you are automatically allocated a pad according to your position in the queue. Yes those sitting on pads are annoying and it would be good to see a ship doing that being forced into the hangar. :)

That won't matter, the slot is still in use.
You take up a hangar when docked. Doesn't matter if you are inside or outside, the entire hangar is yours until you log off or leave the dock.

Are you sure it's a person and not an NPC? (actual human players have hollow blips, NPCs are solid) Plenty of NPCs seem to get stuck in the dock entrance from time to time.

I didn't realise that NPC and real players were differentiated by different blips. That's handy to know, thank you.

It's not players who are AFK or making a sandwich necessarily. There are many reasons for spending time in the station. Checking the Bulletin Board, buying cargo, refuelling and rearming or upgrading ships/modules are just a few.
As for ships being shifted to the hangar so you can use the pad, what happens to your ship on the pad when I've finished making my sandwich and I want to leave the hangar?

Correct me if i'm wrong but there's already a system that forces NPC out of the dock. In a few seconds it will leave. It happened to me once with a player. I was in a trade route. I politely requested, he politely answered. He came out, i landed, sold+bought cargo and off i went just before seeing him land again. No big deal but AFK in that situation ain't pretty. Best advice is the one already given: Either land somewhere or switch to solo, land and switch to open when you're landed.
