I picked up a Goliathus (Control Surface version) to go with my new Razer Mamba.

I swear my shooting in FPS is way more accurate now. I was playing ARMA & I got so many more shots on point. Even a few headshots.

I think I'll be getting mouse mats like this again in the future. I swear it makes a difference to my gaming.

You're right, having a mouse pad which works well for you is critical for precision. It's easy to figure that a pad is a pad, but friction, thickness/cushioning and surface material (i.e. cloth vs plastic vs metal) are all important variables.

Just out of curiosity, high or low sens with the higher friction surface?

I use a MIONIX NAOS 3200 without a pad and it works flawlessly. I have a pull out wooden shelf under my main desk. It's made of wood and has lots of dense grain for the LED's to track.

Optical mice track differences in patterns in the surface, so anything with no surface features or monochromatic colour will not track as well as wood grain or optical mouse pad. My keyboard shelf is quite small and regular pads don't fit. Not to mention I have cats and it just becomes a cat bad full of hair in no time. With the shelf, I just use polish once a week and it's sorted.
