Engineers I don't like to hear that this game may not be for you.,

I think it's meant for those fanboys who simply stat "it's not for you" when someone brings a legitimate shortfall of the game into light.

It depends on the nature of the post.

  • How can anyone enjoy mining? It's boring.
  • How can anyone enjoy exploration? It's boring.
  • How can anyone enjoy trading? It's boring.
  • How can anyone enjoy driving the SRV? It's boring.
  • How can anyone enjoy bounty farming? It's boring.
  • How can anyone enjoy landing on planets? It's boring.
I have seen all of these and more crop up on these forums regularly, often in combination. By acknowledging that some people find the activities engaging but the author doesn't, they are the very definition of subjective. "Maybe this game isn't for you," seems like a perfectly valid response under the circumstances.

the game is for everyone who wants to play
and everyone can defend their way of playing

I think you missed the point of why people say that. In the end some games are just not suited to some people its as simple as that. There are plenty of games I don't play because I know I wouldn't enjoy them. Its no different for Elite in the end.

Fair enough, most times it is the later, you're right. I'm talking about those legitimate ones; those talking about broken mechanics like the missions and instancing. Those simply saying "X" is boring or what-not aren't legitimate and nor are the others that are similar.

The game is for everyone to try. The activities and possibility for group / combat interaction may not equate to an enjoyable pass-time for all who try it.

Placing Suggestions in the Suggestion Forum is the only avenue open to players to try and massage features of the game to be more their liking.

I do hear occasionally of another space game, which magically manages to offer perfect gaming enjoyment to every backer, even if they have opposing ideas of what a perfect game is. Frustratingly I don't think it is available at retail currently :/

I'm still playing the game, but I'm not really enjoying it since the 2.1 update. Every day that I continue to play, it becomes harder to start again the next day. Spending hours at a time mindlessly scanning planets or roaming around on planets in the hope that I might find something useful, just doesn't do it for me, neither does hours of roaming around lookingfor USSs. I liked the way it was before because it was a game of skill, strategy, planning and experience. Now it's just a lottery

IMO it's one of the worst retorts on these forums.

Is telling people to play other games helping Frontier in any way?
I would say not.
Telling people not to play Frontier's game and subsequently not to purchase expansions (why would you for a game you don't play) is bad not just for Frontier but for everyone that currently (or may in the future) play the game.
If Frontier don't make enough sales with a season they will stop development.
As all the people that like to tell people to play something else also like to tell us that Frontier need to make money to continue development when they release highly priced expansions it's odd that they don't get the fundamental concept that Frontier need people to play the game and buy expansions to continue development and telling people to stop playing and likely not to buy expansions is cutting their noses off to spite their faces.
If you also consider that discussion is being stifled by an unwanted forum defense force then Frontier is also loosing out on valuable feedback on the game, maybe the game wouldn't be in the state it's in if it wasn't for these stalwart defenders of the faith.

Is it helping the people whom are told to play something else?
Maybe, they can cut their loses on purchasing the game and not waste time playing a game they won't enjoy I guess (I also assume that Frontier will also loose them an a potential future customer).
Do you know what would be better for them though? If Frontier heard their feedback and based on the number of people with the same issue/opinion decided to change the game for the better. I'm pretty sure most people registering and then taking the time to post on the forums would want the latter rather than the former.

Is it helping the people who are telling others to play something else?
Short term yes, long term no.
Short term they get what they want, people not saying bad things on an internet forum about the thing they like a bit too much.
Long term though as per the first point if the game goes under due to lack of players/expansions sold then definitely not.
Karmic though.

I think there is a fair bit of latitude between "The game is perfect, go away!" and "In that case Powers, there is no pleasing you!"
On top of that you have the layer of "Do they really mean that, or are they simply trolling?" (from both sides)

The effect and the consequence are the same are they not?

If they are trolling, considering how many times I see the same old people posting the same old "Then don't play it", "Maybe the game isn't for you" claptrap then why aren't the mods doing something about it and issuing infractions?

Closest thing I can think of is Fallout 4, quite a few of my buddy's absolutely love that game. My closest friend spends a rediculous amount of his free time crafting a million different versions of the same weapon, strolling around wastelands shooting strange beasts, he loves it, I find it the most boring thing ever despite trying my hardest to get into it.

Constructive criticism and suggesting improvements is always good, a great deal of the posts here are the equivalent of me going on the Fallout forums and complaining about how boring I think it is..

Why anyone would continue playing a game they hate or find boring is beyond me, it's normally the same people on here that have been threatening to leave for the past year, it's like an abusive or fizzled out relationship... I'm leaving this time, honestly I'm LEAVING!!!

Find something you enjoy, life and free time is limited.

A lottery where the winning ticket is "interdiction" with a 1 in 3 chance of "winning"

So many reps for you :)

Personally I think the issue is that Elite does many things really right for people to get invested. The issue is with the number of people playing the game all for different reasons with different goals Frontier have painted themselves into a corner where anything they do pleases ~25% of the playerbase and antagonises the other 75% :p

I still think Elite would have been better split into 2 maybe 3 games.
One as a multiplayer MMO combat/trading game with the whole powerplay and a much reduced galaxy, open only, faster progression etc.
One as a single player action RPG with a heavily story focused game possibly with many different storylines encompassing careers yet with a sandbox option. etc so players can become Cmdr ... Hero of space.
One as a simulator and exploration intended game where people can see the sights, fly in real Newtonian physics and generally just enjoy the mechanics FDev have created.

Yes it would massively split the playerbase but the level of wine and cheese would be significantly reduced I think. I'm not arrogant enough to assume everyone would be satisfied by the above but I think a good 75%ish maybe.
BUT, thats not going to happen and we have to make the best game possible with the foundation we have. Sadly this is the internet and we are all out of cheese.

Frankly, getting upset over hearing "This game is not for you" sounds more like a buyer's remorse reaction.
If anything, I can relate to that.

I look at my own steam library and I see plenty of games where I found out the hard way, that the game wasn't for me. This was lack of research on my part. Examples:
• Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor — I really should have looked up how the boring combat system worked.
• Ace Combat Assault Horizon — I should have thought that one through. They took a new, more cinematic/cutscene/on-rail direction compared to the previous titles.
• Take on Helicopters — I used to a flight sim nerd from the Jane's Longbow era. Yet I found this one extremely boring.
• X: Rebirth — Terrible launch bugs aside, like Assault Horizon I ignored the new direction the series took (only one type of player ship) and paid for that bad decision.

Those were games I bought around launch, I can make an even longer list for games I simply lost interest in, when an update for the game came out. I simply stopped playing, because the new balance/direction/whatever was not for me.

I'm not quite getting the point of the post? Care to explain?

I read your post, your asp, and read the replies that you have received, and I don't like some of them. I saw you defending your way of playing and I agree with that.

I disagree, when you play a game and you dislike the core game mechanics .. then yes, the game definitely isn't for you.
However, this is a little different from disliking a particular feature, or thinking something can be improved.
