I dont really get it....

Are these people greifing or what?

Going towards distress signals but all i see are yellows. And none of the other players have bounties, even after being ganged up on twice for what seems to be no reason at all and no benefit to them.

After going back for a third time i chose a random Alpha backer annoying another player and even after killing them i didnt receive anything. Did not gain any negative bounty, nor did i gain anything of use other than an imaginative pat on the back.

There are like two players in Eagles while all the other 3-4 including me seem to be in the default starter ship. So im assuming they are killing random players first so they can kill the reds?

you have to choose sides first in the screen on the left.
last panel topside.
then you get green and red targets , hollow ones are players.
others are AI.

please guys, please do not make new treads on every thing that comes up in your mind.
the forum gets unreadable that way.

You need to pick your faction using the right function panel then you will see greens and reds. Kill reds. This is a place-holder for later game mechanics that will see you leaning towards particular factions in your decisions. You can try the mission again later and choose the other faction.

im sorry for asking a question.... its not like this game sets everything out in plain view.

Questions? Questions? We'll have no questions here this is a local forum for local people.

Seriously, don't worry about Mr Grumpy Groggs over there. Head over to the Beta forum and ask away sir

Well, since a lot of the game mechanics aren't in place yet and since these quite often tie into one another we can't really expect this to be the case at this stage. So use the forum and ask away for now! :)

Just came out of the distress call area. There were two betans (don't remember their numbers) with beam lasers that were working together, and doing so… let's say effectively. A couple of times I was on a bogey's tail, had them down to 15% or so hull, when they'd swoop in and pinch the kill and the bounty. That said, I think I pinched one or two of theirs as well. Whoever they were, fair dues, good flying (apart from the time one of them collided with me when being a bit eager to finish off one of my kills!)

Keep in mind that the Federal Distress combat zone is a (somewhat) dangerous PvP environment.

Since the Eranin side is considered "easier" most new players choose that side. And some more experienced players choose the federal side just to kill other players. Always keep an eye on the radar screen and the moment you see a hollow red marker (enemy player) put full power to engines, boost away and activate supercruise.

Doesn't the Dreadnaught open fire on anyone who declares for Eranin, if they get too close? The first time I popped in there, I opted for Eranin, given I was in the Eranin system, and I had a high powered beam laser on my backside before I could even get back to the forward screen - and was blown out of the sky before I could even blink.

Now i appear to be 6 shotted by an enemy player sidewinder using one laser.

The choose faction was helpful. They should make it a tooltip in the future when going to events such as that.

I wish there were more distress calls around. This area seems by far the best place to earn credits in the game, but other players are just so dangerous. I generally try to give a wide berth to players on the opposing faction, but bumping into them is unavoidable and since turning your back on them is too dangerous, I keep having to attack them because it's so unsafe not to.

Recently, I've taken to just shooting at them until they bug out / are damaged enough that they'll have to repair and not immediately come back, and then just taking potshots at them from long range to prevent their shields from recharging until they frameshift out.

I'd change factions to match present players, but I just can't bring myself to side with the federals ever since they put a bounty on my head for defending myself from a couple pirates in one of their systems. Screw those guys.

I gave running bounties in the anarchist system's resource extraction location a try, and it seems fairly profitable (and safer), but I've found the rings super crashy so I don't get to keep what I earn most of the time.

Noob question ... how can you tell if a ship you're targeting is NPC or player?

I see names in my target list like "Backer #XXXXX", "Crimson Knight" and "Tom Fletcher". Are these all backers?

On the scanner, players will be "empty" icons, while NPCs are a solid colour. On the targeting display, all players' names start with "commander" (Or CMDR, I think.)

Question for you on this. When i go into the right panel, my faction is set to none and i cant change it. What am i doing wrong? If i'm docked, its definitely set to none and cant change. Do i have to be responding to a distress call and be in an area with other ships to have options to choose from?

Errr, actually when I see a red player I power up engines and head TOWARDS them. Way too much fun, fighting other players :)

You can only choose a faction when going into combat zones that require you to choose a side, the rest of the time you are neutral... currently.

I'm not sure how the faction system will work in the full game, I suspect you will do jobs for a faction that may align you to them for a period, but not sure. I hope what we currently have is purely a placeholder. I'm sure others here will be able to confirm on this.

:)

I wouldn't call them more experienced but there are other players who only care about killing other players. Especially seal clubbing folks in starter ships. The combat power difference will keep getting larger, where it will have many fresh folks not want to play. Less play less stress on the "cloud based instance/matchmaking system" they want tested.

In the end there will be matchmaking that will let folks play how they like, currently I am sure it puts folks off. Even though dogfighting a player is intense when evenly matched, as the ships get more expensive one fun dogfight can turn into a huge bill.
