I dont understand this WANTED system.

I am wanted for 300 credits for like a 17 million hour cool down and I can't even go to the ports I want to go to or they shoot me. I can't pay it off? I don't get it! super frustrating. how do you lift being wanted?

I am wanted in all federation regions.. I didn't do anything... it doesn't even describe the nature of my crime...............

You could try silent running into the dock. That's what I did and was able to pay my fine and go on my merry way.

It's a known bug that sometimes you get fines or wanted for nothing. You should (assuming it's not bugged) be able to pay it off at any station. Just find yourself a nice non Federation system. Dock with any station and look for Pilot's Federation under contacts. Click on that and you should have the option of paying it off. It should be noted that it will cost you more than 300 credits to do this.

Edit
In that case try logging out and then back in. Sometimes it will clear things like the missing missions

I got made wanted for 400 creds when some of my missed shots on another wanted (a pirate as he was actively shooting some clean trader) hit his target.
The system vehicles that were also after this "pirate" obviously noted this and posted the fine/wanted.
Eventually, i got killed and using the info in this thread, went to the Station Services, Contacts, Pilots Federation and paid off the 400 plus a little bit extra.
However I too was wanted for a while after.
I think it's like all IT systems in a wide network. Information takes time to propagate. Eventually it disappeared. I think by the time I got to another system it had disappeared.

Interesting point though is how does information travel?

Is the fastest means of system updates the fastest ship or is there some FTL version of WANs???

Most information in Human space travels at the speed of ships. What little FTL communication there is in the Elite Universe (it's a recent invention) is expensive, rare, requires a lot of heavy equipment, and has very limited bandwidth too. Given the current state of FTL travel in 3300, it's simply cheaper and faster to hire a courier and physically transfer the data than it is to send it via FTL transmitters.

Thank you. Explains all the "pony express" type missions then!
