I exchanged my Vive for an Oculus yesterday...

... but I'm going to get my Vive back. Big drawbacks to the Oculus:

1) Yellow halos around objects above and below the view plane. Very distracting.

2) Light leak around the nose. No obvious way to mitigate.

3) Comfort. Vive feels snugger.

4) Brightness. Excuse the pun, but night and day between the two. The Oculus robot demo on the Vive is rich and colourful.

Lots of folks said that the SDE was much reduced in Oculus but I couldn't see an obvious difference.

Anyway, I'm not being a fanboy but just going to stick with Vive. 😊

Get which ever one you prefer!

I'm very happy with my Rift but never tried a Vive. Then there's the new Samsung unit coming out soon which is suppose to beat both of them - time will tell...

Haven't gotten a VR headset since I sold my Rift DK2, due to resolution being too low on all of them. But I'm very curious about the upcoming Pimax 8K, I will probably get something like that down the line.

Have both both headsets and yes point 4.. the brightness/contrast is a deal breaker for me too My other half has the rift now trying to get her on back on Elite in VR :)

First i got the vive. I returned it because of poor readability and sharpness to picture. Got the rift and it was much better. Not only image wise but also lighter and more comfortable. Did not notice any contrast diffetence between the two. The poor image of the vive is a deal breaker for me

First question to OP. Why did you chAnge, both headsets have similar spec and reviews. No point changing one for other.
From what I've read, the vive is slightly better.
I bought rift due to price drop, but I would not swap one for other.

the rift + windows mixed reality headsets do have an advantage, easy to packup and deploy somewhere else. im not going to unscrew my vive from the wall anytime soon. windows inside out tracking being the most convenient.

i mean, just throw your samsung odyssey into a bag and your playing elite from the comfort of your own caravan, very appealing for elite, the ultimate dad game.
