I feel somewhat ripped off.

I live by a simple rule. Never pre-order, never buy early access, never buy season passes. Giving your hard earned cash to any developer before the product has proven its worthy of the money is a recipe for disaster. *See many sources of why pre-orders etc are bad for the gaming consumer*

Its easy to look at a game, get hyped and put all your eggs into one basket but chances are you'll regret it later.

I think that there will probably be more paid expansions after they finish core gameplay.

But even if there's not, this kind of thing happens all the time. You buy a game for $60, buy a season pass for $30 (or all the expansions separate for $15 each). Six months after the last DLC came out the "Game of the Year" edition hits the store shelves that has the base game + all DLCs for $30.

Yeah, I liken it to buying TVs. I pay a premium to be of the first people to have XYZ tv with exclusive ZYX features. Next year, that same set costs half as much. Do I get upset? No. Not only did I pay what I felt it was worth, at the time, I also paid to be ahead of the average.

I upgraded my kickstarter pledge to include access to Premium Beta and the LEP. It cost me a total of £95. That is the price of, what, 2 new release games. I have been playing this game for 40 months, was it worth it? Of course it was.

As others have said, you made the decision and nothing was promised to you in a certain timeframe. If you had called the thread "I feel it was a mistake" then I would have more sympathy, but to say you feel ripped off because you have decided there hasn't been enough paid content is just wrong in my opinion.

I missed out on the Kickstarter, and only found out about Elite: Dangerous after the Kickstarter phase had ended.

Had I known about the kickstarter I would have thrown my cash at my monitor shouting 'Take my money!' etc.

So the next best thing for me was Premium Beta, which came with the LTEP. I did this partly for selfish reasons (wanted to be known as a Premium Beta backer), and partly because I wanted Elite IV to be a thing (which on hindsight is also a selfish reason but whatchagonnado eh? ;) )

I have no problems with this Beyond business. It means improvements to core gameplay, removing the beigeification of planets, improved planet textures and surfaces, the explorer's Codex.

I'm nonplussed about the Squadrons thingy - kind of wary about that one to be honest.

But overall, I feel that the money spent on Premium Beta and subsequent purchasing of a few paint jobs, is money well spent.

Here's hoping beyond Beyond, there will be some nice additions - I'm looking at you, EVA's, walking around my ships, Spacelegs, atmospheric landings, and probably a whole heap of stuff I haven't even thought of yet.

Nobody recommends pre-ordering OP. You should know what the gaming industry is like by now and if not, well now you've seen why people tell you to never pre-order a game.

I have to say that I'm pleased that FD, unlike many of these other epic space games, managed to get a viable product out the door before they got caught in development hell. And they avoided the famous trap that caught games like No-Man's-Sky, feeding hype and nonsense that they couldn't deliver. The game they promised us is more or less the game we got, now wejust hope they can figure out the features that are giving everyone else problems too.

Well, some paid more than the kickstarter price .... i backed the project at some nominal level but then bought the LEP when they opened it up for a couple months during Horizons.... so that was £129 on top of the £40 backer price.
So really i've paid £129 for Horizons so far (since i paid for the game too).... hopefully that faith will be not misplaced.... time will tell

Frontier are trying to drop the 'season X' nomenclature, If people can just stop referring to 'Beyond' as 'Season 3' it might help prevent some of the confusion ;)
I have lost count of the number of times it has been explained that the term 'season' was never intended to imply a year of updates.

Fair points on the subject of early adoption, which is not what this is about. OP's beef is that XYZ Ltd said "pay us the price of three TVs and we'll send you every new model we ever make" then three years later they've only actually come out with one.

I'm very happy with my TV but the fact is that I didn't receive it any earlier than anyone else, it doesn't have any more features than anyone else's and XYZ Ltd's product brochure for the next twelve months has no new TVs in it. So I understand OP's frustration even if I don't share it.

So like a lot of people i really like Elite : Dangerous, and as a result when the option of a 100£ lifetime expansion pass came up, i ignored the cries of my wallet and spent it, knowing that i would no longer have to worry about buying another expansion pack again. And so horizon came at no cost to me and i felt satisified with my purchase, and all was well until FX just a few days ago. Look don't misunderstand me, i think it's awesome that the new expansion is free, but having spent 100£ on the expansion pass i feel somewhat ripped off. I bought this under the belief that all further expansion would cost money, but as that no longer is the case, i essentially wasted 80£.

Look i want to support frontier, but wasting 80£ for like what, a few non-exclusive ship skins and whatnot, really feels like i've been ripped off. I'm not asking frontier to charge money for 3.0, but at least give those who payed such a large amount of money something for our loyalty and investment. Give us some super exclusive skins, a free ship, or something else. Most would argue that even that wouldn't be worth 80£ (and they may be right) but at least give us something frontier! Yes i realize that frontier is under no legal obligation to give us anything else, but that doesn't excuse the fact that this is borderline ripping customers off.

Why do you feel ripped off. Have Fdev said there will not be any more paid for expansions? If so please can you point me in the direction where they said that.
