Ships I felt the need; the need for very little speed

I have a Clipper that I used on a short trade route, among other uses. Greed told me that if I bought a T9 I could get almost 2.5 times the profit each run. Also I thought it would be interesting to have a go flying it.

I took a hauler taxi to buy it (approx 5 jumps). I chose a pretty minimal spec hoping it would cope with interdictions http://coriolis.io/outfit/type_9_he...4040706054c0303020224.AwRj4yoo.Aw18eQ==?bn=T9 Losing ship and cargo was and still is my worry. My Clipper is armed but more usually I either fight the interdiction or run away which isn't a problem in the Clipper.

After buying the T9 I flew it back home empty (approx 167 jumps) picked up my first cargo and jumped to my selling destination. Immediately I arrived I got interdicted. Submitted and jumped to nearest system. I am not sure what was attacking me but I only lost 2 rings of shields so no damage. I have done 2 more trips since then with no further interdictions. Boosted my confidence a bit but I still feel vulnerable in it with the build I have.

I know people said it was slow to turn but the slowness has to be experience to be believed. I haven't timed a run in it yet. In the Clipper it would take about 15 min but I suspect the T9 will be slower so perhaps not as big an increase in profit as I thought. I have to do about 4 more runs to cover the 10% loss if I sell it.

Ya, I'd stick with it until you get a tradeConda. I never flown this thing. You need to find a good ab rout. Orang has several Imp Slave trade routs under 20ly.

Some people love the T9, some hate it. Going from a clipper to a t9 is flat out masochistic.

But hey, you can pitch faster than a cutter...

Will be a ton better when you get that A rated FSD and the run doesn't take as many jumps. Will also be a lot better when you can afford A rated thrusters/shields and boosters + weapons maybe.

A long while ago I flew this build.

Very overkill but I used the "select next target" key to see what/who was interdicting me and decide on fight or flight. Wouldn't take it into PvP (only trade in fringe systems) but I took on a lot of NPC's, even one Python that was after my gear and won. All been fair warned this was before some of the AI upgrades.

My personal feelings on the T9 are that it feels like a big trucking ship so it's nice for that. But most people use it as a stepping stone into an Anaconda/Cutter. Consider going the halfway house and going for a Python instead of back to the Clipper. Cargo is pretty decent + outposts :D
Get into a community goal or two and rack up a good 20-30mil a week and you'll be in an Anaconda/Cutter in a month or two if you can find the playtime to keep getting in the top 10% rewards bracket.

I did a few more runs on my passenger route and I think the last one was about the same time as in the Clipper. I am getting more used to it and think I will stick with it for a while.

One aspect that is a bit worrying is the docking computer seems to struggle with it. It has a tendency to overshoot when lining up with the slot.

Alex, at 50m I won't be getting A thrusters any time soon but I think I will upgrade to D ones. Maybe power plant, distrib and shields. I quite fancy putting turrets on it at some point as I haven't used turrets yet. On your build I see you had all beams. How well did that work? Did you have any heat/power issues?

I have done several CGs and a few Robigo runs and the Imp grind to get the Clipper. I am in no rush to grind for cash anymore. I just play casually and like buying small ships and the less popular ones ie the T9. I will probably get used to the T9 and do enough runs to buy a dbx and go and look a a nebula or something.

No real power or heat issues if im honest. Like I say I did my best not to take it into too many risky situations but it's perfect for taking out the odd viper or wing of eagles that interdict. 4 pips to shields and just leave the turrets to it. Would advise perhaps swapping 2 for multicannons if you want to be more efficient but at the time I built that I liked the discoball idea :D
DC is probably a thrusters issue, I didn't find too many issues with A rated although it is more accident prone than the Anaconda DC. The Type 9 stops like an oil tanker. i.e. you apply the brakes a few days before you wish to stop :p

Yeah, I worked out for 100mil you can buy and upgrade half the ships in the game and keep them all. Quite nice actually just to play around building them and testing at RES sites etc.

Well, you changed from a Ferrari to 18-whleeler. What did you expect. [hehe]

I thought I'd hate the T9 because of the T7, then I got a second account so my main account could go out exploring and I could still contribute to CG's. Got it up to a Python then the new station CG in LHS 3447 came along. There was no way I'd make the upper tiers in the CG with a Python, didn't have rank for Cutter (or even cash for an Anaconda). It was like a fever gripped me, I asset stripped the Python and managed to get a T9 from a nearby LYR system. Got it an upgraded FSD and better Power Distributor but I was nearly broke.

Took a couple of runs before I had insurance (don't do this at home) and the first run I couldn't even afford all Palladium cargo. It was slow but not horrible. Gradually I upgraded it during the CG and it just kept on growing on me. By the end I was boosting into stations in fully kitted out T9 with 100 million credits in the bank. Making 2 million profit per run.

Some people call it the space cow but man it's a cash cow.

Yeh, I'd agree with Heisenberg - the big bird does grow on you. I only gave mine up when they introduced speed limits - my usual MO was to enter stations as fast as I dared, and woe betide any cobra or adder that got in my way. Unfortunately it's way too easy to blow up NPCs that way, and if you accidentally commit murder the station gets a bit shooty..

OP if you really don't like it, just remember it will make the Anaconda feel spritely in comparison, and that is no mean feat!

I am getting more used to it. It is doing its job of making money on my one hop passenger route, although I have a long way to go before I recoup the cost.

The main problem with it is the docking computer can't cope. I used a dc with the clipper and never had any problems. With the T9 it keeps overshooting the slot and last night impaled the ship on the basket. Fortunately I was able to free it without damage or loss. I think I will have to fly it manually much closer to the slot than I needed to with the clipper.

The time I have to play and the way I like playing suits a short trade run like this more than Robigo runs so I think I will keep the T9 for cash generation for the time being. Not sure whether I will use it for much else but it is fun in a way so maybe.

I upgraded some units to D and added turretted pulses but I am not sure weaponising it is a good idea. It would be satisfying to kill the occasional small pirate in it but I suspect the best tactic is to run away.

I do try :)

Seriously though, i hope a weaponized version of the T9 comes out - just like the Keelback is to the T6.
Honestly, the Keelback was kind of a disappointment when it came to combat ability, and this is after more bounty hunting in a T6 than makes sense. Much less flexibility and agility, not much more armor and shields, and it costs about three times as much.

That said, the Keelback's gimmick is no doubt the fighter bay, so hopefully that balances things out when we get ship-launched fighters. If you can fit a fighter in a slightly bigger T6, I could imagine fitting a few inside a modified T9. Dedicated carrier craft, anyone?

Fun with math: You can fit 18 Scarabs inside a T9. Now if only we could fit 18 commanders in it for a huge ground assault...

I just sold a TradeConda to get the T9 back. The route I'm using only has one <12LY jump for 1.9m profit (in the Anaconda) so why not fly something even bigger? Luckily one of my trading stations sold the T9 and mostly B and some A internals. So I have 100m more in the bank than I did, it's still only one jump, and I'm earning 20% more.
That space cow sure does grow one you, this is my second

She is definitely growing on me. I have made about 50 million so far and need to make another 25 to get my money back although I can see some more possible upgrades. I have taken a break for now though from the passenger runs and I am about to do a bit of sightseeing in my new DBX.

I looked at some possible alternatives for the future. The Anaconda has obvious advantages but as I am not interested in combat?? The Cutter is the biggest so far but is a lot more expensive and needs the imperial rank grind. I can see me sticking with the T9 for quite a while as my big ship.

CosmicBooty - I had equipped the same weapon loadout as on your pvp build but embarrassingly I haven't managed to get my turrets to open fire yet. I have never used turrets before and thought I had set them up properly, allocated to fire group, fire on target, targeted bad guy but nothing happens?

Don't grind (empire) rank. Find a system that has a lot of data smuggling missions and do them. Sometimes you'll get 1% sometimes 5%. Just look for the Confidential Data missions.

Take your time. do a couple of ranks at a time. Or less if you prefer and mix up other activities.

Not got the funds for a Cutter but I now have the rank. :)

Try putting it on fire target then targeting the enemy and press your fire button :p if it is glitched and not firing try retracting and redeploying hardpoints.

Got my T9 today, and I'm loving it. Not fully kitted-out, but it feels like a TRUE starship! Big, ungainly, nice view...It's awesome. More to come, just have to find a route to replace those credits....[noob]

I own one now. I'm very happy with it. flying it with slide guitar on the background. It is the size of a stadium, but I feel like I'm piloting a floating city. Can't wait to fit some friends on the lower deck! I can barely hear the sound of the 500 tons of slaves in the hold, I hope they feel cozy.

Now I sold my Python for it, which I regret a bit : I definitely wanted the t-9 as quick as I could pick it. And I will keep it, I'm just thinking I could have waited a bit cause I feel I'll have to rebuy the snake... No problems, considering how cash flows...

I'll have to admit. I did have just enough insurance money for one single loss (once loaded with cargo) and a wanted cutter was flying in the system I was heading to. Very rash decision! cold sweat! But I'm all covered now! long live the T-9!
