I finally got an Anaconda and I want to love it, but...

It's just ugly, right? I mean, the exterior looks like a giant cargo crate with a squashed Python nailed to the top of it. Ok, ok, I can get over the exterior. It's not pretty, but it does look very functional and as the cheapest of the big 3 it shouldn't be the prettiest. But the bridge is even worse. This was where the real dissapointment was for me. I already knew I didn't like the exterior much because I've seen Anacondas flying around enough to know what they look like, but I never really had a look at the interior. I was imagining something like the Python but bigger inside. Not fancy, a lot of unfinished surfaces, function over form just like I already know from Delacy. But it just looks terrible inside. There is so much empty space. It's like it's bigger inside than a Python, but has fewer features. And those hallogen tube lights? Ugh! Isn't it the year 3303 or something? Why are they still using hallogen tube bulbs? I wish I could turn them off. They are bright and obnoxious. My Python is dim inside the cockpit and I love it.

Functionally however, I do love the Anaconda. I have it basically A-Rated except for the usual D-Rated modules and the Power Plant is C with overcharge until I can afford the 8A. It absolutely shreds in the Haz RES and it feels so awesome. I just wish I liked the way it looks. I may end up trading it in for a Corvette once I have the rank. Losing 30% of my jump range will be a bummer though. I just don't think there's anyway I can swing a Cutter at this point since it's so much more expensive to outfit (not to mention I have a pretty low Imperial rank).

I hear you OP. When I first got an anaconda, I promptly just stored it in the hangar and went back to my gunship until several months later I could afford my first cutter /w selling back the conda. The conda's aethetics didn't sit well with me either. It's like a beetle shell on top with a bunch of space junk glued on the underside which I suppose is considered to be more classically "freighterish" rugged looking. I know some like the "battleship" boat like view of the conda & corvette with the bridge at the middle-rear but I wanted more of a flight than maritime feel. So when I got the cutter it was the imperial ship I got to love which the clipper(misproportioned with a duckbill) or icourier(mutated and shrunken horribly from FE2 & FFE) couldn't do for me. I'd suggest the cutter. It's more like a nice-looking airliner with the canopy view in front, and it glides, basks and soars!

You could give the T 10 a shot. Most folks seem to like the interior of that. It should do most of what the anaconda does outside of jump far when stripped down.

The Anaconda is supposed to be an old rugged workhorse, think old naval vessels converted into freighters. hanging wires and a basic bridge is part of it's charm. First time I sat on the Bridge in VR I felt like I was on an old Supertanker that had been in use way before I was born.. Glorius feeling

As far as the ship itself, major let down, artificially lightened (A T9 or Cutter can almost carry the mass of two Anacondas in the cargo hold) Poor visibility, better options for heavy combat. It's big selling points was it's range as a freighter, heck even the T9 does +30LY whilst hauling above 700 tonnes these days, the Cutter even more.

Have taken the Conda across the galaxy, years ago, now I use mine for module storage. Great for exploration though, if you don't mind having most of your view obscured.

Being honest, I only like the looks of 2 of the largest ships: The T-9 and the T-10. Not because they are "pretty" (they're surely not), but because they look manly, bulky and brutish.

The Anaconda is just plain ugly, looks like if an oil tanker and a submarine had an inbred baby. The corvette looks like a flat shoe, and when I look at the Cutter, despite some pretty details, I just see an enormous suppository, which is highly disturbing.

The conda is the only big ship that I own 2 of, due to its jack of all trades functionality. If the interior deck aesthetics is of utmost importance, you really should only consider the Imperial Cutter. Have a friend take you on multi-crew tour on a cutter. There is nothing like it in the realm of luxury and class.

The Cutter feels like flying a DJ booth. It puts me in mind of one of those limo's that drunken women hang out of for hen parties.
My Cutter I fly for trade CG's and high paying haulage missions.
My Conda I fly because it's just a fun big ship to fly.

The Anaconda is just a great versatile ship

You can use it better then any other ship as

- Explorer (range in excess of 70 LY with all stuff you want or need)
- long range Trader (400 tons cargo shielded with around 30 laden/ 55+ unladen range)

It also makes a very decent (PvE) combat vessel.

It's arguably the best (or tied with cutter to first place) anti thargoid vessel.

Don't sell your Conda, you will regret it. Keep it, earn your 'Vette with it, but don't sell it. There comes the day where you will buy it back :)

Haven't got any of the big boys yet but I haven't had a ship I didn't dislike before getting used to it.
Well, the AspX was love at first flight but she's the exception :)

I think the anaconda was the first ship I started off not liking. Something about that prominent large ship feel that I later got used to.

I get this from the exterior. It’s very function over form and I’m OK with that. The interior looks like it needs a little more design. Like the artist took a few sick days right before the project was due and just turned in what he had. I don’t want polish. I’m not asking for Delacy to have a Core Dynamics or Gutemaya interior. I just want it to at least be on par with other Delacy ships. The Viper, Cobra, and Python all look very distinctively Delacy. Not fancy, but they have a unified aesthetic. I wouldn’t even know that the Anaconda was Delacy if it didn’t have the little blue falcon on the dash. It just doesn’t match.

I don't like flying the Anaconda, or the Corvette either. I get the idea of what they are trying to do with the rear bridge, but don't like using it.

The Annie always reminds me of an old yank muscle car, for some reason.
I don't mean stuff like Mustangs or Corvettes. I mean a proper q-car like th '64 Pontiac GTO.

You've got all these fancy new ships like the Cutter, Corvette, Krait, Chieftain etc - which are like Veyrons, Mucielagos, Evos and Scoobies - but the Annie is just a bulletproof old tank of a thing.

I avoided buying one for years cos I thought they were "easy mode" but they're damned fine ships.

I can't speak for its uses in other areas as exploration is its only function for me. I have a great fondness for the conda and spent most of my time in it, including to beagle and back. I love that old battleship look and even those hanging cables. It entirely suits its look. For kitchen sink completeness and great range it is all I need to explore, though the super cruise handling is wretched but you get used to it.
As for light bulbs OP, well it seems our characters are still wearing spectacles also. You'll find the future is firmly rooted in the past in regard to how we predict and model it.

When I was grinding for my first large ship, I naturally aimed for the Anaconda, because everyone praised it for being the best multipurpose ship. To finally fly it was a great experience and sense of accomplishment at first, and it really could do anything that didn’t require a medium pad. But in the end I just didn’t feel it. Nowadays I own most ships in the game, each built for a purpose. But the Anaconda just sits there in the hangar and only sees the stars when I’m doing the rounds to engineer some modules for another vessel. Curiously, it was the same with the Python before, which I only call upon for trade CGs at outposts these days. As you can see, just because a ship is better on paper doesn’t mean it suits everyone. That being said, I still have plans in my drawer to convert the Annie into an AFK turret boat someday, just because I can ;)

I don’t think I could explore in it. It’s too hungry for fuel, handles poorly in super cruise, and is slow and unweildy (not to mention too big) for planetary landings. Jump range is only one of many factors I consider for exploration.

As far as the hanging cables go, I’m fine with them. In fact, it could use more hanging cables. It really could use more of anything. It reminds me of the inside of a shared office space... but one where no one actually works. It just feels like it has no personality. The bridge is twice as big as the Python with half as much stuff.
