Over 700 jumps @ 48 LY average (52 LY max range, tho never exceeded 49), one week spent on travel.
280+ LY range on one tank.
Engineered FSD (46% opt. mass, 5% more fule per jump) and surface scanner (40% faster scans).
First 2k LY from the bubble - all stars already discovered.
Last 350 LY before SagA* - stars discovered as well.
Found 3 earth-like worlds on the way, 10+ water worlds and lots of high metal.
Saw 2 or 3 metal content planets with rings.
Found brown dwarf with rings.
Made 65k Ls trip to scan a body.
Thought that core would be more illuminated.
Got "Fuel reserves at 5%" message.
Overall trip was a bit boring, started to be a bit nervous for the last 8 jumps.

Now I need to get back in one piece to deliver all that scan data. I wonder who much is it worth.

A week of scanning, but obviously not everything... 50ly jump range... I'm going to go with about 200m in explo data. We should do a pool. :)

200m sounds delicious. I have another week of scanning before me as I'm coming back.
Beagle point I'm leaving for another time, another ship. This trip is one more "checked" on my list. Now back to bubble and we will see how much I'll be short for decently equipped Anaconda. I have enough Cr for the ship alone. If I won't be able to outfit it properly as I'm planning I'll go cheap trader build and see how it goes.

But for that I must be in the bubble. Next week. Atm I'm staring at the abyss.

If you scan thoroughly on your way back you can add quite a few more millions to my estimate I reckon. I, and I assume many others, tend to only honk and scan water worlds, gas giants and earth-likes on the way back. And the gas giants only because they can be scanned from 1500ls away (long range scanner engineering).

EDIT: As for your cheap trader build, I just did that, built a T9 for almost exactly 100m that makes 45m an hour running boom deliveries (large scale 120t loads plus, x3 or x4 if you get lucky). At Daedalus station around Mercury you will find these missions paying between 6 and 9m each ALWAYS to one of the planetary bases in Barnard's star. One of the reasons this works so well is because you will be sent to to planetary outposts on the same planet that aren't far away from each other, just as you get back up to orbit, it's time to come down again, it's a very quick run. :)

@CMDR TCW | Jocki - oh, thanks for the heads up. I was just about to side step east-wards for about 1k LY and then plot route back. Looks like there's nice stop on the way. Will check it.

@Aashenfox - usually I just honk and FSD out. I scan metal rich/WW if present + star. If system has earth-like, then I scan whole system. Looks like I need to add giants if I find close ones. My scanner is modded towards speed. With 40% boost in performance it started to behave as expected.

And thanks for the trading tip. T-9 is a strong alternative for Anaconda here. Finally I'll have both of 'em but right now I'm leaning towards Anaconda. And I haven't still got the Sol permit. If credits will be the issue I may hit road to riches, hour or two should bring me enough cash for decent build.

Anyway, Colonia and Beagle Point are the next major things to achieve. Right now, after about two weeks in the dark running cargo missions or doing some serious trading will be nice contradiction. As I said, first I must report at home and decide where to dump all that scan data to shortcut into allied (hehehe). Then I'll be thinking about purchases and outfitting. You can expect to hear from me, that's for sure.

And if you excuse me, there is a supernova remnant somewhere in there waiting.

Per suggestion made in post #11...

Starting from SagA* it was just slightly over 800 LYs (18 jumps to be exact) trip to see that view. Must admit - from afar it looks way better than from inside. On the route there I found interesting looking planet. Turned up[ to be ringed ammonia world.

As of now I distanced myself from center of the Galaxy for just 1k LYs. It's nice to see black space dotted with stars since whole disc is behind me and (almost) no dust. Tho I'm seing this and it make me think...

Looks like border between Koreas, as seen from space.

If you are still near Saggy A (and if you haven't already done it) try to go as far up (edit: or down) in the galaxy as you can. The view from there is quite staggering.

Seconded. I’ve done this twice now and it never fails to awe me. When you’re up (or down) there, take a good look and then remind yourself that you can visit each and every one of those stars. It’s things like that that remind me of the sheer scale of this wonderful toy we have in Elite.

Kids these days and their fancy engineered ships. ;)

It's called PROGRESS, you old fart

If this comforts you in any way, I made an attempt in a 33 LY DBX rust bucket about half a year ago. Sadly, all I achieved was slightly over 5k LY from starting point. I knew it would take some time to get to SagA* but apparently I wasn't prepared.

Side/top Galaxy view is now added to my "to-do" list. As stated already I'm on my way back to the bubble. I'm curious how much credits it will give me, SagA* and back. I still want to visit Colonia and Beagle Point at some point. As it requires a bit longer trip than this one it wouldn't be much problem to detour to top/bottom.
