I finally "Pirated" some GOODIES !!!

So i did it, i actually got some goodies off CMDRs.

Did about 30-40 interdictions (probably more, rough guess) around the old worlds and the new CG today.

What i found :

* 99 percent of the traders i met were cool and played the game. Only had one guy log on me and a couple of politely annoyed bobs.
* I didnt have to do much shooting. Just ask them to stop for a scan and then when its done ask for 10 tons. Most were happy to do so.
* Mouse players will smoke you in the interdiction mini-game. They just SMOKE you.
* Scooping is a science and an art.
* It cost me a fortune and is not profitable but its a lot of fun.

I have no real intention of killing anyone, even if they do a runner i might just blast them a bit and try to get them to stop but my goal is to get those 10 tons.

Bottom line, i like being a Pirate. Yarr.

Good on you ! happy to see that there are not that many who log off... so as long as you ask and never shoot you never get a bounty on your head?

Yeah you get a fine for the interdict but no bounty unless you blast. Ive got a ton of fines and bounties now.

I havent paid them off so im getting interdicted constantly and running away - im trying to run a business here !!!

Was tempted to jump in a pimped brawler after i got wake jacked and lost my goodies but it comes with the turf so cant grumble.

Congratulations. I wish I have as much good luck as you do encountering traders.

Yer but you are Code and we all know you guys just kill everyone. I read about it on the forums once so it must be true... Actually I think a friend of mine read about it and told me, or did he get told about it by somebody else??

Any way if you change your ways you might get better luck like this guy...

I think I am going to interpret that as sarcastic and ignore it.

If I ever decide to go on an anti-piracy campaign, I will start by shadowing traders and destroying any I observe who appear to comply with any piracy attempt. Submitting to blackmail only encourages it's practice. If traders come to believe they will be destroyed regardless of compliance, they will cease to comply.

If they cease to comply then there will be a lot more rebuys as traders are vaporised from botched attempts to shoot the hatch out.

Not to mention the Armageddon of rage being killed in this manner would encite.

I am all for skill based gameplay over blackmail/extortion but the current mechanics make it a pita rather than a rewarding experience.

Does sound like something one ought try one day

How do you know they're mouse players? Why is it easier to play that game with a mouse? If anything I had a harder time with it. But I'm not really good at interdiction anyway. s'one reason I stick to solo. To quote a person above: I'm not your fun.

I think the game needs piracy and I think for the skilled pirate the rewards should justify the risks, but but from an in game anti-piracy perspective the idea would be to make piracy as unprofitable as possible so that as few people as possible would be inclined to do it. If I look at it from a pragmatic perspective and ask as a CMDR inside this virtual world "what would do the most harm to piracy at the lowest personal risk?", my best answer is "zooming into low energy wakes with my war FDL, destroying a victim that seems compliant, destroying any dropped cargo, then either hyperspacing away, or if the pirates look weak, attempt to destroy them as well". The compliant victim is perforce weaker than any pirate that could take advantage of him or her, and almost certainly does not know that masslock has no effect on high energy wakes, so they are the logical target. An easy kill that both deprives the pirate of a reward and may well make the victim hesitant to submit in the future, even if said victim doesn't mistakenly thinl the pirates destroyed his/her ship (and many would).

Such tactics would also give me an edge over the pirates I would not have were I bounty hunting, as I would not be inclined to wait for them to become wanted, nor would I need any non-combat gadgetry that could reduce my effectiveness at blowing stuff up.

Anyway, as it stands, piracy doesn't really work except in the "tourist" scenario where some people actually look forward to such interactions and thus play along to what I find to be an illogical degree. It's all part of the open experience so instead of adapting and fighting to make it impossible, they accept it when they otherwise would not. None of this conducive to achieving the plausible and immersive experience I desire. People need to both rail against piracy and only submit to it when they truly have to, and piracy needs adjustment so even someone who knows how to hyperspace, or who is more inclined to blow up their own ship, can be forced to comply by those who are well prepared and who know what they are doing. Only then can we overcome the false pretenses that most piracy currently operates under.

If they can catch me, they have earned the cargo

Unless, of course, they are unable to stop me from blowing you up before you jettison.

I have no hard evidence but anecdotal information from here on the forums is that interdicting with a mouse gives you considerably more precision.

I'm pretty good at the interdiction game so when I get absolutely owned and don't even get a single bar advance at any stage of the duel I am inclined to believe I have been defeated by a superior input device.

Of course it is entirely possible that I suck and got smoked by a HOTAS interdiction god.
