I found a weird thing in Shinrata Dezhra...

Hi Commanders,

I got my first Elite rank yesterday, so I went to check out Shinrata Dezhra. I logged in this morning and decided to look for some materials. I found a Combat Aftermath USS that had an NPC Viper in it that sent me a voice acted message about looking for a Private Data Beacon for the Dark Wheel. I accepted the mission and scanned the Viper. It was called "Onboard Data Beacon" and was on 5% hull and belonged to no faction. I scanned it with the data link scanner and the mission completed. Is this a bug or some kind of special Dark Wheel thing?

I don't think it's specifically Dark Wheel related... They were just a convenient local faction to attribute the task to. It's not a Shin Dez thing either - I came across several in other systems whilst farming HGEs last week.

I don't see what the benefit of completing these are though. I completed two - got a thanks but nothing else. Declined a third and got chastised for only thinking about myself (as the data could have saved thousands!) Without any context about the motives of the requesting faction, how was I to know!!! (or even assess that assertion)

That's a standard USS, I've been in similar. The ship is stopped and silent, so you can't see it on your scanner, usually, so when you get the message it can take a few minutes of scouting by eyeball to find the ship. Sounds like you were close enough that you found it straight away. :)

So this isn't a bug?

No.

No.

Still, "Onboard Data Beacon" is a funny name for an NPC.

Wish there were NPC interactions like this that actually meant something, had a larger plot etc.

No Man's Sky definitely doesn't have the same feel as Elite Dangerous, but what it does have is a massively better mission system!

A NPC called Ronald Frump asked me for 500t of LTD for a Thargoid Interceptor retrofitted for a human pilot. I got two options to pick from.
1) Give 500t of LTDs
2) Fake news!

I selected fake news and a Medusa jumped in and destroyed my ship.

When I first went there, I went in my Gankatron 2000. I killed all the baby newbs in there. Rolled around in their blood I did. You know why? Because mining is so out of whack with the money and I'm sick of it.
