I freaking love this game.

There is a lot of criticism and negativity in this forum. While there are a lot of things I would like to see improved as well, I recognize how far along the game is already, and I am have having a blast with the existing content.

The features and game play mechanics in this game are engaging and fun to the point that I find even the otherwise simple act of flying between two stations for trading to be exciting. In no other game (and I have played many) have I ever found simply traveling around the game universe to be so enjoyable. In fact, I find such activities in most games to be boring to the point of feeling like work.

I guess what I am most impressed with is how well thought out the core game play mechanics of piloting your ship through docking, super cruise, and combat are. Sure, some of it could use a bit of polish, but the base game play mechanics that the rest of the game is built upon are just incredible IMO. I hope FD succeeds in expanding this game out to their complete vision of a sci-fi universe because if further features such as landing on planets and ship interiors are as well done as what we have now it will be mind blowing.

+1

While reading a lot of negative posts from people saying things like "exploration is just point at dot, click, wait, repeat" and that kind of thing it struck me that one thing you needed for Elite 30yrs ago and which you still need now (even with the ultra realistic graphics) is imagination. If you believe you're flying that cobra across the uncharted, pirate infested vastness of the milky way (and my god but the graphics and sound design sure help you do that) then you're gonna love this game. On the other-hand, if you basically just think "I'm pointing a cross-hair at white dots on a black background" then you may have a problem.

:)

It is awesome. Especially when you start to appreciate the little things. I was just flying around Solo Orbiter in Altair last night thinking man they did an awesome job modeling the stations. The attention to detail is just excellent.

I'm with you, Harotak. :D Thank you for the positive vibes :)

I've said it many times: This game and its community is the most fun I've had gaming in decades. Bug fixes, polish, future content that is sure to be coming are all set to improve it even more. I've got a bug or two nagging at me, sure. Still doesn't change my opinion. These folks are on it, and I smile every time I log in.

Nice to hear from another happy Commander!

Have some rep from me too, I love this game. It already has a solid basis, like you say, and the possibilities for how much better it could get are really exciting. If all the moaners don't like it then go and play something else. I'm getting really bored of the posts telling us how you've thrown your toys out of the pram and how you won't be back. Good, go and bore someone else because I don't care how upset you are. The whole point of a sandbox game like this is you use your imagination. I for one am glad it hasn't been funded by a publishing house with the lowest common detonator in mind. Look at how good Rome was, and how rubbish Rome 2 was. I'm glad it's not over scripted with a storyline I have to follow.

Your stream on twitch is the reason I bought this game. I knew from that going into it that I would enjoy the combat, but what blew me away is how much fun the rest of it is. All the little things like managing your heat near a star before jumping out, optimizing your super cruise approach, requesting docking clearance, watching for other traffic in the port, and deploying your landing gear add up to an experience that is very engaging.

Haha! He gets it!

I'm in love with docking. Every single time. Doesn't matter if it's a tiny outpost or an enormous station. I love every second of approach to touchdown - every single time.

I still giggle like a child inside every time the animation for jumping to a neighboring star system kicks in. That is what reeled me in the first time I witnessed it. I was reading about Elite, checked twitch to see if anyone was streaming it, and was suprised to find that there were several. Mendeck was the first streamer I caught, and the first time I saw that jump sequence... hoo boy... I couldn't find a way for Frontier to take my money fast enough :D

Thank you for the kind words, Harotak :)

Another rep from me.

There isn't all that much negativity, it's just people like to flame those threads and the negative threads are usually the exact same criticism by one new person. :)

I dont think ppl realize just how massive of an undertaking this game is? ED has done right to nail some of the core mechanics (ESPECIALLY SHIPS/COMBAT) First, rather than try to take it ALL on at once. This is the problem with Star Citizen, they are trying to do it all and please everyone at the same time on a universal scale and the result is...very messy. Unplayable for me in fact. ED has a lot of cool stuff to add in the future, unfortunately a lot of ppl are in the instant gratification class and want it all on release. Sorry but no dev house on the planet could have pulled that off.

Docking computer was the first thing I always bought in Elite. I have no plans to buy it in Elite: Dangerous. Ever.

+1 from me, too. The game is amazing and people complaining that the game doesn't complain a few mechanics other modern games offer fail to see what great unique features ED offers instead! Absolutely love the game!
